@Moby Dick have you considered that you may have issues with your own installation? So far the feedback on Windows 10 is fantastic. I have certainly come across no issues with it myself yet whatsoever, and reports from my customers are generally good ones. You say it has got to be the most untried OS ever released, but that isn't true. Millions of people worldwide used a pre-lease version and took part it ironing out kinks etc. And it's not free because they don't want paying for it, it's free because they'll make money through store purchases just like Apple do from now onwards.

I don't think 8 was unstable either, just an awful layout compared to 10. This is what makes me think you may have underlying issues with your own PC. Can you define the instabilities you're seeing? It's made me curious.

This is a good point @cj1 . I personally NEVER upgrade Windows from a used install of a previous version... it's asking for trouble anyway. Clean installs all the way. In the case of this free upgrade, I back up files, upgrade without keeping files and programs.

Cheers Wayne for advice. PC as I picked it up from yourself earlier this year with no alterations but hasn't really been wonderful and I think it is because Windows 8.1 just doesn't suit me. It is blocky, crashes and freezes and the hard drive is permanently rattling around as it was before.

So I shall be a dinosaur and revert to Windows 7 when I get hold of a copy.

Just going to put some coal in the boiler to drive the generator for the electricity supply.

For all those that have upgraded to Windows 10.... I've had a couple of people now ask me if I can provide a Windows 10 installation DVD in case they ever need to start fresh, so that they can install 10 without needing the nuisance of having Windows 7 / 8 installed again first.

Therefore, if anyone would like a DVD for re-install purposes let me know. I have both Home and Pro discs (each does 32 or 64 bit as required).
