I guess the issue here is that you see these people as actual Christians, just like you see the terrorists as actual muslims, whereas I see both as being a bunch of wankers pretending to validate their actions through erroneous and misleading religious quotes.
So, at odds with much of the rest of the book? It's like the one bit in the Bible that denounces gays, but is seized on as a reason by many Christians to call them ungodly. The same Christians that have tattoos, eat meat on a Friday and have sex before marriage, because they bend the religion around what they want to do.It's hard to find web sites that aren't rather EDL for my liking to provide evidence, but this one seems to provide a reasonable argument to back up my point:
Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them" No reasonable person would interpret this to mean a spiritual struggle.
