Hi Guys - interesting chat, so here goes my first post on this forum: The circle of the club..... they get new ground (a long time ago!), much later the land owner wants to sell it to develop houses (and to make lots of money?), he cant get rid of the club because of the 30+ years left on the lease so, he offers the club a piece of land that he cant sell for houses? (do you not think he would have if he could have!), the club are left in limbo - take the land/don't take the land, they take the land get planning permission and.... they get the new ground, 60 years later they need a new ground as the site is under water (the reason why it couldn't be sold for houses).......... do they get a new ground?????

.....so they are submitting new plans quickly so they can spend their grants http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2016/02/15/clock-ticking-on-stafford-rugby-club-cash/

Not really when 4 or so members of the planning committee are on the internal drainage board one being the chairman , it's amazing how these drainage boards work , millions are spent all over the country , surprising enough 4 members are not concerned especially with the upheaval of Stafford as a whole and the £2 million they are now showcasing for Victoria Park front page E & S park will look fabulous flooded !

IDB Environmental responsibilities

Internal drainage boards in England have responsibilities associated with 398 Sites of Special Scientific Interest plus other designated environmental areas, in co-ordination with Natural England. Slow flowing drainage channels such as those managed by IDBs can form an important habitat for a diverse community of aquatic and emergent plants, invertebrates and higher organisms. IDB channels form one of the last refuges in the UK of the BAP registered spined loach (Cobitis Taenia), a small nocturnal bottom feeding fish that have been recorded only in the lower parts of the Trent and Great Ouse catchments, and in some small rivers and drains in Lincolnshire and East Anglia.[6] All IDBs are currently engaging with the their own individual biodiversity action plans which will further enhance their environmental role.

Many IDBs are involved with assisting major wetland biodiversity projects with organisations such as the RSPB, National Trust and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. Many smaller conservation projects are co-ordinated with Wildlife Trusts and Local Authorities.

The only person to appear to 'win' out of this is Lord Stafford.

Lord Stafford appears to be forcing the Rugby Club move to a different site, who then become hated by a lot of people in the town, Lord Stafford then sells the current rugby club premises to house builders for a big fat wedge of cash. SBC get houses to fit the current plan but also get lots criticism due to approving the Rugby Club moving a sensitive site.

Losers = people living near the new club location, SBC because of the criticism and people of Stafford because Doxey Marshes may* be impacted.
Winner = Lord Stafford.

*used the word 'may' as I haven't read ANY of the associated documents to do with the case at all so cannot say 'will' with any certainty.

To be fair to his Lordship, I don't think he is "forcing" the Club to move.

Do they not have a lease with thirty, or so, years left to run where they are?

Or am I misunderstanding the situation?

@Gramaisc Reading between the lines, it appears the club may be having pressure applied to move sooner rather than later.

Beaconside has 1 year left, that means they can spend 30 years organising the move there without issue?

But Beaconside is being sold so there is no guarantee there will be any form of sport there after next year.

If they sold it to the rugby club there would? The only reason not to is that they'd have to pay, which I can't see being a legal reason to exclude the site from alternative options?

I suppose that sale would depend on the new owners. I could see Beaconside being mothballed and then sold for housing.

Enjoying a drop of red.
I expect to be unimpressed by what happens - but, I would like to be wrong.
How can Beaconside get any worse?

First it was our land and then it was GIFTED to the Poly. Then the Poly were allowed to sell it and make a PROFIT for themselves.

SBC/Poly 1 - 0 Ratepayers

As is always the case, the people get shafted by their elected Cuntcillors.

All this has further reaching impacts than the green space and wildlife.
That is the immediate effect, as is the impact on the immediate residential area. I also predict that on a Sunday when all the teams are playing that all the extra cars will try and park in Castletown as there is no permit control on Sundays. A free for all and more frustration! Other factors would be that they are moving onto floodable land and that puts the rugby club itself at risk. I even wrote that in my objection that I submitted.
