As someone who is just about to do exactly the same thing
to be honest there isn't really anywhere massive to avoid

where are the small areas that should be avoided?
Nothing I ve seen looks really bad but looking for local knowledge of roads or estates they might be worth avoid because of flood/people/noise etc

Flooding - parts of the new estates north of Silkmore Lane have had issues - The Meadows had a very near miss a few years back - Sandon Road at the Freemen Street junction has had a history.

Dodgy people - a few fairly localised zones, but they're fairly obvious, even in daylight.

around 330k but looking more where to avoid as we know that we are looking to be within a 30(ish) minute walk of the station so in town is where we are looking

Hi everyone,
Back from our “day trip” looked at 3 houses and had a drive around. Traffic wasn’t that bad, and we managed to have a lovely lunch at Western Hall lovely place!

Western/Weston and vice versa, I wouldn't worry, though, the locals do it all the time.

Which areas were you looking at? If near Weston house prices will be lower because of HS2 being built nearby.

For 330 you are unlikely to be in a 'bad' area so you may want to include more 'wants' to your search

You can get a mansion for that in Stafford. You've got the massive 4 and 5 beds in the new builds if you can make do with a bit of questionable quality (it might be that the bigger places are a bit better built, no idea). Otherwise there's a fair few areas with pretty massive houses.

For instance: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-47800938.html

You're not gonna be in a bad area for that. The areas you might not want to be out at night in are mostly between Stone Road and Sandon Road. The roads behind the hospital are a bit iffy but not awful (lived there in our last rental, I've seen worse places to live)

Enjoying a drop of red.

Yes. Marlborough Avenue has some real undesirables living there, apparently.

Cutting across town to get to the station in the morning might be a pain. Although if commuting to London you might be early enough to avoid it.

From yet another BBC News lazy 'story' or clickbait as it is better known

Of course Stafford is the Borough of, to include beautiful areas like Fair Oak but not the run down slums of Acton Trusell

So that makes a little more sense
