Cats have been domesticated and part of human companionship for over 4000 years....they are as much a part society than anything else....besides...everyone knows that cats are not our pets......we are the cat's pet....

4000 years ago we sacrificed people to the gods to get a better crop, but luckily we got better. Perhaps the real reason for a decline in bird numbers is increased cat ownership? Cats are after all the animal world equivalent of fox hunters.

your statement on "who is to blame?" for an act that is natural in the Animal kingdom just did not make sense at all. Was there someone / thing that you felt was to be at blame for such a natural act to be undertaken? Perhaps your cat was feeling generous and wanted to bring you a gift as a way of showing affection towards you?.....persecuting a species for a natural act that did not meat (see what I did there?) your ideals......just baffles me.....
If we breed and/or kept the same amount of birds and mammals at the same scale we do cats and dogs, there would be no argument/disagreement to have here.

Not sure where we going on this one.

I could answer my own question* if that'd help?

*who's to blame for it, really?

4000 years ago the Vegan in its current format didn't exist either......perhaps the cats are to blame for that too?

Some how I have this odd vision of a Siamese cat in a red hunting tunic astride a mounted Beagle, hunting that pesky Great Tit across the fields of wheat....blowing his brass horn......The humble black bird in protest?

It would clear things up as to your train of thought......@1JKz

There's almost too much to take in here.

What was the format for veganism back in 1982 BC?
What is the current format of veganism?

When that's answered i can maybe understand the 'perhaps the cats are to blame for that too?' bit, because i'm lost.

The modern society variant of Veganism....I have nothing against it what so ever, so please do not take it that I am being Hostile towards you or your lifestyle choice....that is yours to make and yours alone.

I am baffled by your question as to whom is to blame for a cat hunting an animal as part of their nature?

OK.

I can answer my own question, sounds like you need me to for us to move on.
So, who's to blame for it, really?
Meaning who's to blame that cats* go out and kill a shed load of wildlife every single day.
WE ARE!!

Sorry for shouting but i feel it needed it.

We breed and keep cats on a huge scale, nature doesn't have that option so are easily outnumbered and an easy target.
So what would happen if we didn't breed or keep cats, (or as many cats)? That's right, less deaths in wildlife.
It's honestly that simple.

Phew, there, done.

*lets not blame just pet cats for the mass slaughter of millions of wildlife in this country and around the world, dogs can and are pricks too.

Cats would breed regardless of whether there was human influence or not......if left feral they would do the same.....in fact probably more as there would be intervention such as responsible cat owners neutering their pets so they could not breed.....therefore your argument is rendered mute somewhat....

Felines left to their own devices would breed more, therefore hunt more, and see a further reduction in other wildlife in the food chain.....It would only take something above them in the food chain to reduce the feline population, perhaps the introduction of Wolves or other such predatory animal to a feline....

Either that, or keep pets and be a responsible owner and neuter them to prevent out of control breeding.

You let the dogs loose too, they'd help bring the population down, but the very fact they weren't being fed would reduce numbers massively in a short period of time.

Cats will hunt to feed if they are hungry enough.
They already hunt, just for shits and giggles. Resources are finite, there are enough birds to kill for fun but not enough to kill for food for every cat. If that wasn't the case we'd be overrun with foxes, badgers and weasels to name but a few.

OK, I watched, and its a great explanation of Natural selection....but that wasn't my point.....you are saying that humans are to blame for a rise in feline population. and that may be true in some areas, but as responsible pet owners, populations can be controlled via neutering. Correct?

If a feline populous was left to its natural state, this would of course be the way populations would grow / decline, as the video states, this is the natural order of things....by adding a third element, in this case humanity controlling the feline populous via neutering and responsible pet ownership, hunted animal (birds, etc...) would stabilise, flourish & grow, and you can enjoy their presence.

So by saying humanity is responsible for growth in feline populous, it is also responsible for the control of feline populous.Wouldn't you think?

*bear in mind that there other predatory factors to consider that are outside of human intervention....foxes, badgers etc......are you now supporting hunting / culling these creatures as well to control the natural selection of species?

I think this discussion could go on and on and on........distracting from the topic at at hand....

'...humanity controlling the feline populous via neutering and responsible pet ownership...'

Which has worked out a treat.
