There's a change of use to turn old DP's / Burtons into a gin bar (18/29668/COU)

"Our client is proposing to operate the premises as a public house, as part of their Hogarths brand,
which is high end Victoriana, with lots of timber panelling, brass, leather and stained glass, and a
new timber shop front will also be installed which will fit with the existing style , unit, a new cellar lift
will be access able from the front elevation , at first floor the toilets will be situated, a new rear
drinks terrace will be formed in the existing yard area"

I'd never heard of them. They look an interesting concept, a bit different to our current options.

Good news about a new development at that end of town despite @Gareth's pessimism and doom for all things North of Market Square.

Never heard of them before. A quick look at their website would seem to suggest it could be a welcome addition to Stafford.

Sounds fantastic, it really does. the north end needs more of this especially leisure and evening.

But it is not pessimistic about the north end, I have responded to posts about the plan for the north end which is a growing reality due to the current situation I am afraid and to correct one post from someone else saying the new cinema will have no impact on the north side.

There will still be units that come and go especially on the main street but the north end is far from being saved because one unit potentially being taken when another 2 are potentially going (salvation army and peacocks) with a rumour another could soon go on goalgate st. That could 3 loses to one gain.

That end needs much more I am afraid to say, even north walls is still 60% empty.

I hope it never happens

There's only so many boozers a small poor town can support

Why favour a big corporate over local traders

People complain every high street looks the same and then go and contribute to its downfall

If it's what the locals want it will succeed, if not it will fail, but I for one welcome someone risking their own money on something that could help regenerate the charity quarter of Stafford.

'...high end Victoriana'?

Hogarth was arse end Georgian - have we entered some sort of parallel universe that forgets that 'Gin Lane' was supposed to be cautionary?

Rowlinson is good though - contemporary Hogarth, what?

We've already got a very good gin bar at no.7 and I will continue to get my gin fix from there.

I would have preferred it if this bar was offering something different rather than another gin bar.

Pleased to see a vacant unit brought back into use.
