The Butlers Bell is open as usual, it's a fake news thing that's going about.
Hardly fake news, when they make this statement themselves*.

***We are now open***

Due to very unfortunate maintenance issues on the front of house, we have had to close today.

But we are now open with usual service until 11pm.

We are sorry for any inconvenience our closure has caused

Bollocks.

It was closed earlier which is why I took the pic.

Fake news is news that's not real, not stuff you simply can't be arsed to check your facts over.
I did phone the pub and I was told they were open as usual. So maybe they were shut but when I phoned they were open.

Following rumours on social media Stafford FM can confirm the Butlers Bell pub in Stafford is up for sale. The property which is currently owned by JD Wetherspoon will remain open until a buyer is found.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We can confirm that The Butlers Bell in Stafford has been put up for sale.“We totally understand that our loyal customers and staff will be disappointed with this decision.

However, Wetherspoon, does on occasion, put some of its pubs up for sale.

It is a commercial decision taken by the company taken after long consideration. The pub will continue to trade as normal until a buyer is found.

Odd choice of the words ‘closing down’ in the title when the article and the quote clearly say it isn’t closing down, just for sale and will remain open.
Sensational local journalism at its best...

Technically it'll have to close down when the buyer is found as the new party will want to put their stamp on it.

Tbh it's a shame, it's a nice chilled out venue, and you always know what you're getting with a spoons.

Wonder what will replace it , it's a blow for for that side of town with butler's and bright house going, even though bright house were shite, they were better than a boarded up shop.

Think it went like this

Yates wine lodge
(Something else maybe after that vanished ?)
Aprés
Butler's bell

Bare in mind the only reason spoons took Aprés is they were after a much more profitable site elsewhere, but had to buy the Stafford venue at the same time which was underperforming as an Aprés bar anyway, so it was always on borrowed time as a spoons anyway I guess.

As for the other Aprés venues, looks like the company hit the wall in 2017, and spawned into an American bar with slightly different owners.
