I rather like Labour's position, and don't see it as illogical at all. Shortly after Emily Thornberry explained it on Question Time, I even went as far as saying I saw the logic in it in public rather than anonymously (cough) on an internet forum. And today's ruling just showed how stupid Labour were yesterday.
I was meaning my anonymity, but anyway ....
I liken Labour's position to deciding with my wife that we might need something - say getting a scratch fixed on the car. I go out and the guy in the paint shop says it'll cost me £200. I say "that's more than I had in mind. Would you do it for £150?". "I can't go that low" comes the reply - "tell you what - I'll do it for £180".
So I come back home and say to the missus "The guy wanted £200 initially but I did my best and negotiated a lower price, and he said he'd take £180. Not sure I'd want it at that price though. What d'you think?"
The problem is that (if there's a possibility that you may not recommend your deal), it's a dreadful position to negotiate from.I have to agree. While I think the entire ordeal of Brexit is incredibly shortsighted and a bad idea, outright revoking is just going to cause uproar. They should at least attempt to hash out a deal even if it's a bad one - just so they can say they've tried.
