What I Did This Weekend - In Pictures!

Apart from the cooking, the gardening, the washing, the ironing, the cleaning, and the daily walk, I’ve found that I’ve become addicted to jigsaws.
Not just doing them but spending an inordinate amount of time on e bay searching for them, watching them, bidding for them.
I’ve found that I really like the 500 piece ones which can be achieved in a few hours of pleasant contemplation.

Don't want to sound daft, but under what title do you search for them? I've been trying to find a few like these, but no such luck. x

Well, at least you're not going to pieces.

I go into e bay and into the search engine I put in “jigsaw puzzle”

Then on the left hand side it lets you select which make so I choose either Ravensburger or Gibsons.

They are the only jigsaws I will do.

Then also on the left hand side of the e bay thing, you can then select how many pieces, or whether you want to buy new or used, or auction or buy it now etc.

Sometimes if there is a specific jigsaw that I want then I put the whole thing into search engine such as
“Ravensburger Jigsaw 500 pieces Happy Days at Work”

Good luck, I’m having loads of fun doing mine.
I’d let you have mine but the current ones that I’ve done have already been promised to someone else.

Thanks @Carole
I only really want the old scenes, as you've shown. Found a few now, so again, thank you.
I have a 1000 piece puzzle of Neuschwanstein Castle to do at some point. That will have to wait till I'm on leave again.

Hi @Carole, I'm new to jigsaws (obvious reasons) and I'm just wondering why this is?
No criticism intended, actually worried I maybe missing out

Ravensburger are my favourite because the jigsaws have a soft click technology which means you are always quite sure that the right piece does actually go there, none of the ambiguity of thinking “well that bit could go there or there”.
They are just really good quality and so are Gibson’s.
Having said that, WH Smith do a decent jigsaw too.

I’m a bit fussy when choosing a jigsaw, probably because I don’t have a lot of patience to sit and do a jigsaw that’s mainly sky or grass or
trees.
I like to be able to pick something out. The jigsaws above were a joy to do because I could pick out the colour of the car, then the roof, not too much sky or trees, just little bits of different colours.

Still like the jigsaw apps that let you create puzzles from your own photos

I did do that for some friends that like doing jigsaws. Took a photo of them outside their house and had it made into a jigsaw as a surprise.
They were really pleased.

I didn't realise you could do that. An idea for future presents ...

I really enjoy jigsaws. Done them since I was a kid, but I got a lot when son first went down to uni and did a stint in a charity shop. I bought the shop out of them each time I visited.
Then the next few birthdays and christmases I got bought loads for presents. Some have made their way back to the charity shops again, some I've saved to do again, but still have some unopened to be getting on with these next few weeks (although I've lost the dining room table to do them on now since it's been turned into a temporary (?) office.

Most challenging one was a double sided one . Can't remember whether that actually got finished , must have given that away as can't find it in the cupboards.

I have one which is an absolute bastard. It's an Escher picture and only in black and 'white'.

But, the 'white' bits are clear, as the black bits are printed on transparent vinyl sheet. This means that you can't be sure that you're even looking at the right side of the piece in question.

And it's in three overlapping layers. So you can't even be sure which layer it's supposed to be in. And the black bit on each piece is only part of what is black on the whole thing, some of the clear areas on each piece will actually be black, but those black bits that are 'missing' will be on one or both of the other pieces that fit above or below it, so it is hard to be sure where it should be on the picture, much less which layer it should be in, or which of the eight possible orientations is the one you should be looking at in the first place.

It was largely assembled in the box when I got it, but about a dozen pieces had come adrift, I not sure that I've ever managed to put one back in the right place.

Thankyou @Carole , I like the sound of those.
When I began I just bought the first two in the charity shop that were 1000 pieces.
The first took far too long and nearly gave up on the blue then the green.
The second was much quicker and more enjoyable so I get what you're saying.20200201_223141.jpg 20200209_024950.jpg

The afternoon yesterday and until just now today - weeding and tarting up - I've had enough now, for today, but I think I've got about three to four day's worth left...

Not the world's straightest edges, but we're back to having a good drop now, to stop the grass creeping out into the borders.

This weather is helping greatly.

The debris can go into the emptied heap now and be churned over with the tiller now and then.

I feel a shopping expedition coming on for the evening.
