Good beer/Bad beer - Good pubs/Bad pubs.

The price of cans / drinks range from £3.50 up to £8 or £9, so some are quite cheap.

I appreciate that not everyone is willing to pay those prices but I enjoy drinking quality drinks rather than the mass produced rubbish that most pubs now serve. If people want to buy cheap beer there is plenty of choice for them.
Mark,
Which "mass produced" drinks would you describe as "rubbish"?

I understand that, although many people seem quite content drinking it.

They do, but that doesn't mean it's good. With food people eat crap because of price, sure you'd like a decent burger but you still eat at mcdonalds because it's less than half the price of something good. With drinks that is less so, because most of what we pay is tax. For 50p more than a strongbow you could have a real cider, in some places like the floodgate it was cheaper than strongbow in many pubs anyway!

I have no idea what makes a beer 9 quid, but as I regularly pay more than double for better food I can understand doing so for better beer too. You just do it less frequently.

It's probably "good" for those not wanting an 'interesting' or challenging drink.
And, whether for drink or food, price isn't always proportionate to quality.

And what's that compared to the price of your bog standard low/zero stuff in a pub (ie Beck's blue?) Not that much of difference I'd wager....
Having never drunk "low/zero stuff in a pub" I wouldn't know the usual price - but for £4.40 I would expect to get more than a pint, maybe even two pints, of proper beer in a pub locally.
