NHS Dentist Recommendations.

proactive

Enjoying a drop of red.
I tried them last week and they're not taking any new NHS patients.

I was registered with the dentist on Eastgate Street but when I rang for an appointment last week they told me I was no longer registered because I didn't have a Denplan.

They've never written or phoned to tell me I needed one whatever a Denplan is.

I've tried most of the Stafford dentists including the NHS dentist in the Civic building but can't find anyone taking new NHS patients. Nearly every dentist I spoke to said they were taking private patients though so yes they are exploiting people.

Anyone know how to get a National Insurance refund?
They need to change their website then.

There does seem to be have been blatant profiteering going on in dentistry for a long time.

I've finally managed to get treated by an NHS dentist but because it's been so long I had to have 4 extractions and more to come and I now need dentures.

I registered with the Dental Surgery on Friar's Terrace and they were really good particularly with me having a morbid fear of dentists.

They're still taking new NHS patients if anyone needs to register.

My Dad had to find a new dentist as he'd been struck off the list and they were the only ones who'd take him.

That's good to know, (the dentist, not extractions) I had a humongous filling fall out last April, its not causing any pain but I think I may be on borrowed time & my usual dentist (Hillcrest) seems to have changed hands.

If you're registered with one dentist, and haven't been for a while, can you change to another?

I think to you can as the choice of dentist is yours.

Also they're quick enough to drop NHS patients if you don't go for a while (without even telling me in my case) so it should be reciprocal.

So far two friends have asked if the dentist could do implants instead of dentures but I said I didn't think they'd do it on the NHS and in any case I'd look a bit silly with a pair of boobs hanging out of my mouth :)

Has anyone managed to register with an NHS dentist recently in Stafford, I lapsed with Eastgate and sadly I am without a dentist.

No, I found it impossible. Ended up paying privately at church lane dentist.

At best you can ask to be put on the waiting list, for the waiting list.....for a space at a dentist, it seems.

Lots are advertising that they are taking on new patients, but arent actually.

Only if you can afford it. Personally I think Dentists charge far too much money. It's an indicator of what charges will be for private healthcare if the Tories get their way.

We only get one set of teeth, nothing is too much is it? I do get your point though and despise the Tories and what they are doing to the NHS. I don't think £200 a year is bad for 2 hygiene appts and 2 check ups. I got charged £400 for a beautiful white crown that's so good it looks real. To me that's a bargain! I have friends who've stayed with the NHS dentists and are now looking at false teeth at my age.

Also depends how much pain you're in. I was ready to stick my head under a train.....
