SA Covid testing in Stafford?

Did I just see the Midlands Today trailer saying everyone in town is going to be tested?

(Disclaimer I'm 3000 miles away).

Yes according to BBC text. It was detected in January and the council is advising everyone in the borough to be tested in the next 4 weeks.

Yes everyone please panic, the guy in question it's been reported had it in January and self-isolated and didn't come into contact with anyone.

1) Bit late to be doing this is it not?
2) within 4 weeks? very urgent

I'm just really going to ease my mind and rule out the scare of the un- masked supermarket delivery bloke this week getting a bit too close in my face while I was unloading the trays of shopping.

No appointments left until next week at Kingston centre.

I don't trust the ' track & trace shows they had no known contact with anyone whilst infectious'.

You should ask the delivery drivers to wear a mask if they aren't. It's your right.

The borough is very disparate, so they really should be going door to door. I know plenty of people round here who could only get there by going on the bus (of which there are currently 2 a day) which doesn't limit the risk. I guess the CC haven't been given any extra funding yet.

ordered our home COVID tests last night...second set to be done since Forebridge was declared a "hotspot"

I rarely leave the house anyways, so hopefully will be all in the clear :)

Just seen the county council has booked the Grosvenor Centre in Gnosall for testing so maybe I'll let them off.

They have regular “pop up” test centres throughout the county to cater for local hotspots so there’s probably a few of them around the borough for the next couple of weeks.
I wonder if they’re just doing PCR tests now as the lateral flow test can’t identify different strains.

Yes, you’re normally told to go for a PCR test but as they’re trying to identify the SA variant (& the lateral flow test isn’t as accurate) it would probably make sense to just have the PCR test first.

Booked another test for Thursday at Kingston centre.

They have a lot of sites under Stafford including Meir so check the location if you're not sure. I assume they've listed anything in the borough as Stafford rather than just those in the Stafford area.

Husband and I have both just been down to the Kingston centre.

He had an appointment but I didn’t.
They have two queues, one for those with appointments and another for those without.
Priority obviously given to those with appointments so husband was more or less straight in.
I only had to wait about ten minutes or so.

Very quick and easy, by the time we got home we didn’t have to wait long for the results (both negative).

We will definitely get tested more regularly now.

Did they say how long the results would take?is it quick result lateral flow test?
I can’t remember, did the “door staff” ask if you’ve had the vaccine? I’m curious if it would affect the test (I seem to remember it was one of the questions I was asked at the door before going in)

Yes, they tell you the results will be by text / e mail in 30 to 35 minutes. You can go home for results, you don’t have to wait there.

Yes, they did ask whether we’d had the vaccine.
