Tooth extraction.

I'm booked in to have one of my back tooth taken out tomorrow. Its fractured, now my question is what do I expect to it be like.
I am dreading it. I have a diazepam to take before I go. Hubby is driving me there. Its the after care and pain I'm worried about. What are your experances and advice. Nothing too gory though.

"After" is nowhere near as bad as "before".

The dread is an issue, but it will not be as bad as you might think.

Fill the time afterwards, just pottering about doing things that you like doing.

Are you having a local anesthetic?

I had three wisdom teeth out a few years ago and was completely oblivious! They told my husband I was 'very chatty' so gawd knows what I said!

Recovery wise you'll be fine, lots of paracetamol!

Top tips:
- Don't eat anything hot (soup etc) for at least 8 hours afterwards
- Don't use a straw - it's very tempting but the suction can cause the wound to reopen
- Say hello to mashed potato and chocolate mouse for a few days!
- Avoid rice - I got a bit stuck in the 'hole' and freaked out
- Rinse and swish after every meal!

Have fun! Xxx

Don't overdo the Paracetamol.

The overdose is nasty and the curve is quite steep, if you do approach the edge. Keep a count...

Two paracetamol, two hours later two Ibuprofen - repeat as needed.

Not sure if it's legal or advisable but it's what I've done in the past when things are really bad!

Accidental overdoses do occur, usually in connection with also taking "cold remedies", without realising how much is in some of those.

Have you checked with dentist about taking the diazepam. It might be worth a phone call in case there’s any conflict with it & whatever they use to numb your mouth.

Nothing to worry about.
My only extraction in adulthood was about twelve years ago done by my dentist in Stone and I was immediately fine for a couple of pubs before my train back to Stafford.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Perfectly fine provided you don't exceed three doses of ibuprofen and four of paracetamol during a 24hr period.

I had a molar extracted a couple of years ago after I fractured it. Local anaesthetic with the old needles, but the stuff he rubbed on my gums beforehand meant the needles really weren't that bad. I'd agree with the above, the dread was the worst part.

Does anybody remember the tooth extraction method portrayed in comics back in the day. You tied one end of a piece of string around your tooth and the other end around a door knob. Then you slammed the door !!!

PS ... I'm certainly not recommending this.:mad::o:lorks:

Well after a very bad night. it was discovered I have another abscess, the tooth has disintegrated so he couldn't take it out cos of the swelling and infection. so sent home with 7 days antibiotics go back on the 4th he did say it will be a tough extraction but that was something he will have to think about..
update still in a lot of pain, antibiotics have not had any effect yet. pain killers doing nothing.
can't do much else but wait. that you for your concern..
