I remember that going on - 1968 - Vietnam was ramping up and Czechoslovakia happened in the middle of the detention period for the crew, plus the French riots and all sorts of other events - it all seemed ready to come apart.
It nearly all came apart for me when I mentioned that the Chinese intervention saved their butt.

We didn't have a lot of things back then. Start with the Internet and work your way back through domestic video recorders, cathode ray tubes etc etc and throw in just about every electronic gizmo we take for granted in. I was going around the Cape on a journey from the Far East in 1970 and all the radio equipment was based on valves.

Happy to see she's on the move. I'm wondering if they'll anchor her up in the Lakes to examine her, or go for broke.

Looks like they've dropped the hook in the Bitter Lakes. I've heard stories that there may be damage to her bow which might have to be assessed. The canal is open.

I notice oil prices climbed when the Suez was blocked, I suspect they'll be much slower coming down. Somebody always makes a killing when things go wrong. Perhaps they should be nuked .... :P

Would you object if I took the backing bands of these documentaries out back and lowered them into a giant vat of boiling brontosaurus shit ? :PI

The Ever Given is still swinging around the hook in the Bitter Lakes. Whatever delay she had being an enormous ship stuck across the canal, is paled into insignificance now the 'blame game' has started. There's lawyers and politicians involved now ... serious money must change hands (probably under the table.)

My advice, invest in factories making brown envelopes. :heyhey:

I wonder if the Captain got a chance to ditch the black box before the authorities arrived

Salvage Law has always baffled me. However I think that only applies for 'at sea' conditions. However, in terms of insurance and the 'blame game,' I suspect this saga will continue for years. I've already heard the phrase 'a trillion dollars' bandied about.
It's like those old westerns when you see buzzards wheeling around in the distance. Something tasty to be had.
