Help re homing pigeon landed in my garden

We had one today too, tried to feed him but he kept going next door. Seemed healthy and fit enough, just seemed lost!

A friends mother had one last week that she found just sat in her kitchen, it now made her garden it's new home. I also heard if it goes back to its owner they will kill it.
My two German shep have a fat pigeon that used to tease the, through the patio door and they hated it now 3month later they all happily share the garden.

The making of a pie is looking more and more likely I think

I've just seen a chap on a motorbike with a basketful of racing pigeons on the back - honest!

So on Wednesday morning we had a racing pigeon land in our garden… he’s still here, in a box in the conservatory. We got hold of the owner when we read the tag and it’s apparently a champion and was on its way back from Rugby

Seems he’s still not flying though, if it weren’t for the neighbourhood cats and weather we would have left it out there but as it can’t actually hop the fence we really had to bring him in and let him out for monitored sessions for a bit, gave the wife something to occupy herself for a few days at least. She’d never let it just fend for itself in the wild when it has a home to go to either.

Hoping the owner can just come pick him up soon, he doesn’t drive so will have to get someone to collect him.

He has a few of them that do it apparently, and this one being a champion racer I imagine he’s unlikely to just neck it… I hope

My old dad kept homing pigeons, he sold his best one 26 times.

We have developments

We scoured around and found that Wildlife Barn (British Wildlife Rescue Centre) near Amerton take grounded pigeons, so after discussing the situation with them we’ve left Borb (his nickname because when we found him he was rather round) with them. They’re going to continue trying to contact the owner and if they can’t get hold of him, or he says he doesn’t want him any more, they’ll set him free

At which point he’ll likely fly back to us and join the gang of pigeons that @Vics feeds. But at that point he’ll be able to fly so we won’t need to keep hold of him.

Been a stressful few days as he took over the conservatory but we didn’t want to just turf him out to fend for himself, so glad it’s been sorted and he’s with lots of friends down at the rescue now

Speaking of, their costs are pretty high (40k+) for a small outfit and they need all the donations they can get to keep supporting injured wildlife. Hint hint
