@gilbert grape it's farking horrible and more and more commonplace. The fact that you have to love your country too. Am I proud to be British? No I'm not but also why is that the benchmark?

And he's probably the most qualified person to be PM in a long time. Is he really worse the Johnson? Have you taken a look what he fought for when Public Prosecutor?
His mistakes when leading the CPS were enough for me.

I think Boris did a reasonable job over the last year given the shit we've all been dealt, I don't see how anyone would have done better or worse. It's still not enough for me to vote for either Boris or the Conservatives.

His (Starmer) reported errors we enough for many. How many actually looked into the fact checking and how much fell at his feet?
And I'm not a fan either, I just prefer facts.

I think we can agree to disagree. But in my opinion, far too many late decisions, despite the advice, leading too many more deaths than needed and too scared to close the borders is not a good enough job for me.

Ultimately there's only 1 rightwing party to vote for, so they get all the share. Those of us at the centre or to to the left have 4 or 5 so the vote is split.

Bottom line of all of this is the turnout. Not impressive considering the struggles that went on to get a vote long ago. Perhaps voting should be made compulsory, but with every voting paper having a box labelled: "None of the Above" which would have to be counted and displayed statistically. Of course that might bring us back to where we are now, i.e. .... pretty much disinterested.

What goes around comes around. :|

Seriously?
He was far too slow to make any reasonable decisions, and nothing highlights that more than the call a few months ago to impose quarantines to incoming travellers, something that should have been done a year ago.

If anyone has an hour to kill, this interview with Matthew Goodwin done after the last GE is absolutely bang on about the problem Labour faces:

I said he did a reasonable job, not a good job or an excellent job. Whoever had the job at the time would have been slated for whatever they did too, it was/is a very difficult time with no prescident to follow or adhere too, just look at India to see how much worse it could have been for us.

You can't please all of the people all of the time.... But you can upset some of the people most of the time.

No I get what you're saying. I simply don't recall him making a tough decision at the right time. He made plenty of decisions that were average just because he had delayed them.

What decisions were made were then drip fed through his usual channels over a period of days rather than just saying "this is how it is".

I'd honestly struggle to rate him as average...

I don't want to argue politics with anyone, everyone's views are valid and true to them, it's just that I didn't vote, it was so unimportant to me this time, that, although I took the voting cards out with me & intended to vote after work.... The call of food and a g&t after a long day meant that this time it just wasn't that important to me... Rightly or wrongly. Hohum.

Call me naive but I really don’t see what the way Boris has dealt with the pandemic has to do with local elections. Local elections should be about local issues & not party issues & for that reason I’ve never voted for the same party as I’ve voted in the general election.
This time around I’ve voted for our local independent candidate, he lives locally & has a record of fighting for local issues in the borough council. Unfortunately he came second to the incumbent Tory candidate who, iirc doesn’t live in the ward. He was 3rd last time & cut the Tory lead by about half this time compared to last.
What really does any & disgust me is that the overall turnout was only 36% & the only campaign literature was from independent & a really lacklustre leaflet from labour. The people of Staffordshire should be ashamed of themselves for not getting off their arses to vote. No doubt the 64%of the electorate that sat in watching tv etc will be the first (&loudest) to complain when essential services are cut back. I’ve lost count of the number of people I’ve spoken to over the last couple of weeks that weren’t going to vote because “it’s a waste of time & won't make a difference” Fu*#*ng idiots!!!
I have no particular political bent, in fact over the years I think I’ve voted for just about every party going I general elections.
(Rant over, I’ll be knocking on @Bob Clay’s bunker door shortly.
(P. S. I’m not having a pop at anyone on here. It’s just a general observation about something I feel rather passionate about)
