Moving to Doxey.

Hello there people

I am a newbie and just wanted to find out as much as I can really.

I've noticed an older thread from 2016 about Doxey, but cannot find anything else on the subject plus we're now in 2021 and I understand that people/places change.
I will be moving to the Drive, Doxey in August (the new housing developments) and wanted to gather some information about what the area is like as of now. It will be myself, my 9 year old son and my partner; we are Black British.

Thank you

Ahhhh fair Doxey. Cool summer breezes, paved with gold, wonderful views of distant still smoking volcanoes, .... errrrrr ..... wait a minute. I think I'm getting Doxey mixed up with another place

Disregard everything I say @Queeny :P

A couple of things you should know. First of all thats not a bad area there. The new housing development has definitely had a positive impact. Its good for town but far enough away from the new road to not impact you.
Now, Doxey is a friendly punchline to a joke, not for any massive reason but in the same way Stafford might mock Cannock or Stoke, we might mock Doxey. Every town has that place and its usually based on something from 50 years ago. Doxey is fine and that area is alright. Welcome to the town and the forum.

Well thanks a lot Peter for taking the time to reply. Your view has definitely given me some inspiration. It's a home swap I'm doing with another tenant which we're all looking forward to.

Doxey is reasonably civilised these days, the natives are outnumbered by more recent settlers.

You may notice some noise from the motorway and the railway, but the nine-year-old will probably drown that out.

The Main Road only really goes to Doxey, beyond that is only Yokelsville, so traffic levels, once you're outside the New Road, are reasonable, and The Drive is town-side of most of the million humps.

The fields to the south will disappear under houses shortly, but the marshes to the north should remain for a while.

The old railway to Newport is an entertaining bike ride.

In general, I would expect you to survive the experience.

don't mention the blinds
Pluses, =
nice community edge if town,,
Easy access to Isabel trail (northbound)
Easy access to Old Railway line ,(southbound)
Both being pedestrian/cycle lesuire routes
Walking distance from town
Walking distance from castle

Negatives
Can't really think of any .....

Sorry, I was only joking. (I can't help it, I've got to an age where everything seems funny, no offence was meant.) Doxey is OK, I used to have family who lived up there. Also another benefit is: should a small nuke hit Stafford, you're in with a good chance of survival. (Oh crap !! I didn't mean to put that bit in ... :heyhey: )

I was born in Stafford in 1963, lived here till I was 18, up the Northern End, Stone Rd. I moved around Yorkshire and Lancashire for 12 years with spells back in Stafford. Moved back permanently in the 90's, as my Wife and I considered it a good place to raise a family. Great links for rest to of UK. Good schools, reasonable house prices, and our family nearby. In my childhood Doxey had some bad press, and an area of social housing that raised some concern. Doxey had a poor reputation in the town. I can not comment about the legitimacy of this, as I had no real contact with the area, it being miles from where I lived. Stafford & Rural Homes have redeveloped the area of post war pre-fab housing that was responsible for Doxey being known as Tin Town, and long over due it was In my opinion! Although I now live in Rising Brook, I work just outside Doxey. I pass through on my way into Stafford, use the few shops, visit the park and walk down The Drive regularly. There is a very friendly, frequent local bus service into the Stafford. The 2 shops are friendly, and the new chippy must be a bonus? It will be interesting to see how the expansion of Castlefields by the Burleyfields estate affects Doxey, and I imagine as you will be near neighbours living on The Drive, you will be waiting to see if it extends in a commercial or educational sense. They have already started creating some play facilities by the balancing lake near the current park. In the 4 years I have worked in Doxey, I have found it a very friendly and welcoming, I have a few friends brought up in the area who can't say enough about it. Though not a practicing christian, I have found the Parish and its Church very welcoming and helpful. Come with an open mind, there are certainly some lovely warm people there, and I wish you and yours all the best! With lots of building and development in Doxey and near bye, it is certainly an interesting time to move to the area.

Doxey is a good town for family life. You'll be able to find a nice house or apartment in the area you plan to move to. It's quiet and peaceful enough, so unnecessary sounds from the street won't disturb you. My husband and I had several moves from state to state. Luckily, we always used the services of a moving company that helped us with our moves. Do you have any fears related to your move?
Holy thread resurrection!

Yeah, it's great. 1 man owns half of it, council 25% and other 25% in private ownership. Bostin.

There is an awesome bike ride from the bottom of Isobel Trail at Beaconside Road, up toward Doxey and them re connect at Doxey to the disused railway line to what was Haughton Junction calling at Gnosal and on to Newport, to keep a railway jargon ! no buffet available, Strictly a summer ride as at times there are several areas where dairy herds cross over to and for the milking sheds from then fields and its all thick cow shit.
It maybe that by now you settled in Doxey and since moved on and I am wasting my time typing this, so from cow shit to bullshit, I wonder which is best for the garden !
My old Aunty Lizzy when in her late seventies used to visit a friend in Doxey, she once said to me I will pass on some advice i had from my Doxey friend "When you get to eighty, shoot yourself", ha, she was so funny even at her age. She lived to 102 yrs. Either she didn't take the advice herself or she couldn't get hold of a gun, bless her..
Maybe she meant, if you reach eighty and live in Doxey, not sure..
