Having just been to a gig I have a few thoughts on this.

They asked to see your QR code to say you were vaccinated, but didn't scan it and didn't check the name matched your ID. Logistically it'd take so much longer to do this so I understand, but it does mean anyone can use an image from someone else. Inside was no distancing and virtually no masks, I felt OK (but strange) in the seated area but I'm not ready for the standing yet. We avoided the bar for obvious reasons.

No venue has to take any measures, the ones that are seem to be doing it because they know a lot of people won't come unless they at least pretend.

That's funny I was at a gig recently as well and felt safe apart from the strange beardy guy sitting next to me and the loony woman he was sitting with :)

The queue to get in went a long way back along the North bay and I assumed that was because of the COVID checks but as @tek-monkey said they barely even looked at them.

Luckily most people around us looked to be of an age to have had both jabs (not that this means they have done so).

It was quite a relief that people were acting sensibly as we left and it was possible to get some distance between our group of four and the rest of the crowd.

How do you know that the person in the photo is a 'she'?

I originally did a reverse image search to see where the image came from and saw it appeared to be part of a set of photos in which the Indian model Shraddha Kapoor appears in. Shraddha identifies as a she. I am less convinced it's from that photo set after having a second look just now, though as I noticed her mask is slightly different even though she's wearing the same clothes.

Quite.

Very disappointing attitude...

Or, you know, I did some research.

Ugh yeah that's what I worried about, to be honest. I have thought the first gig I go to again I'll probably go somewhere local (so probably Wolverhampton as I can usually get a train back) and stand at the back. I'm usually on the barrier or near enough but I don't fancy that just yet. XD

It is all of those things... But also its a bit Benny Hill.... I'm sure no offence was meant..... And for me as a woman, none was taken..... If my boobs* make you have a vaccine that will keep you safe and healthy,... Then so be it.

*not my boobs, but happy if you think they are & they get you vaccinated!

I was probably a little blunt, so apologies for that, but it was just a bit "everyday sexism" for me. A bit "fwaaaar, NORKS, aren't we bloody blokes harharhar!". I asked several female friends if I was being over-sensitive immediately afterwards (or to be more accurate, I asked my social feeds and most of respondents were women) and they all said they'd seen the joke elsewhere and it made them feel gross and they were glad I said something.

Staged or not, I think stuff like that being passed around subconsciously adds to the culture of women being seen as nothing more than "a feast for eyes" (particularly as she's playing the role of a health worker in that shot - literally saving lives - and yet the sneaky look at her boobs is supposed to be the important thing happening there) and, to be fair, I wasn't just getting offended on behalf of somebody else as it made me feel uncomfortable, too.

I don't think anyone who posted it or laughed about it was being consciously sexist, mind.

Hey, does anybody know what the process is for booking a film at the Odeon currently? I've noticed they're still asking people to line up outside so presume they must have some measures still in place. Just asking as, pre-pandemic, I'd book online and then collect the ticket from one of the machines but it appears like you might need to show your ticket at the door so I'm unsure. Or does the ticket show up on your phone via the app?

I've been intending to ask a staff member at the door but there's always been a queue and I've not wanted to add to the numbers unnecessarily.

EDIT: just been to Sainsbury's and glad to see the screens at self-service back up. Must have had a lot of complaints.

Got the minime jabbed.

Just thought to say, minime only turned 16 on Wednesday, and aparently government guidelines say she can only have 1 vaccine at the moment, not 2 as for older people.

I'm told that our doctors will contact us if this changes.

I have a disguise if she needs to borrow it

I didn't realise that the new ' rules' related to not having to isolate from 16th Aug , if double jabbed and being named a close contact , depended on being fully vaccinated for at least 14 days before

So son isn't safe from being thrown back into isolation yet again until next Thursday when it's a fortnight since double jabbed :hmm:

He can't help it if working in close contact at work. But told him to lay low for a bit if he can so he isn't prevented from coming to London with us .

(In danger of never been seen again without him to hang onto on the tubes  )
