Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Although I work virtually in town, I don't have many reason to venture into it as such, but I did have an hour to kill today and was completely shocked at how everything's changed/abandoned/decrepit... Stafford now appears to just consist of phone/charity/vape shops.

I've got to say though all staff members in Trespass/Millets/bargain new shop went out of their way to be helpful and generally lovely.

Also, what's going on in Old Millets? It seems stacked to the rafters with big yellow puffy sheets of something? Literally the size of mattresses, but looked like some sort of insulation.

I thought it was insulation supplies for the conversion of flats above the shop but I've seen no movement in a while.

My sister works there and has not been given a closing date. My sister and the other members of staff have been treated appalling by the owners for a number of months now. I will never spend a penny in any of their stores again.

Yes a store with very unhappy staff & even with 20% off is still more expensive than Home Bargains that have happy staff.

Met the wife and daughter after work (we had coffee in Candid while daughter did an art class next door in Woodings yard.

Popped into Tesco for the first time in an age... What a shock to the system.

No frozen food at all due to freezer failures and a butcher/fishmonger counter closed Mondays and Tuesdays!!

Did anyone see the documentary on Poundstretcher, where they brought in the man who set up/owned Poundworld before its collapse to improve their stores?

It just looked like they were making it up as they went along - and then, decided to sack the man brought in once they'd got his knowledge without actually implementing most of his suggestions.

The shoe shed has closed, apparently Stafford folk don't need a shoe shop ... Ended up grabbing a pair from M&S of all places.

I ended up getting my last pair of shoes from M&S too, it's always interesting how the ebb and flow of shops changed how we spend our money. Just think there will be a line on shoe sales in the Stafford branch that will be in an annual report in a budget meeting somewhere that was higher then expected and no one in that meeting will know why...
