Coronavirus.

Interesting look at why infection rates went down after "freedom day". Essentially it says it's because of schools closing and no football but also because people (and businesses) behaved much more cautiously than anticipated, one study even suggesting that the average person had less close contacts per day after July 19th.

It also suggests the coming months have the potential to be less rosy, with returns to football, to work and to school coalescing to provide what you'd expect to be a spike in infection rates, particularly as the latter will be an unvaccinated group.

I don't know anymore. I find it impossible to anticipate which direction this thing will go, as I never imagined that this time last year the worst wave was still ahead of us. I think that will probably turn out to have been the worst wave (unless the virus escapes the vaccine, god forbid) but all you can do is continue to be cautious, I guess.

An NHS-worker friend posted this on facebum:

"Today at work we received an email to say that razor blades are being taped to the back of COVID information posters in our healthcare clinics to injure staff when they replace them with other posters...

Working in healthcare is so depressing sometimes."

I think they were hoping for higher numbers over the summer to burn through any remaining unvaccinated. Keep a close eye on Scotland when the school go back and then a mad dash to offer vaccines for the over 12s

Disgusting. If they had any idea how horrible this illness was they would not be posting/doing this shit.... 3 months on & I'm still having problems...

The campaign against covid measures is not organic, its not lots of plucky young super intelligent but under appreciated Facebook users coming to a realisation. It's coordinated and it's funded, things appear in too many places too well synchronised.

I don't think covid is the end game, just a rallying tool. It will be used to build a follower base before they are moved onto something else. It feels very much like Trump using the disposable servants to storm the capitol while he remained clean. Something just feels wrong with it all, this many people aren't really that stupid on their own. Someone is exploiting their stupidity.

Yeah, I don't have the link to hand but did you all read about the YouTube "influencers" who came out recently to say they had all been approached by some shady company to spread anti-vaccine myths for money?

Sorry to hear you're still suffering with it, littleme.

I have a feeling that a lot of disinformation stems from Russia. I have no proof (and can't be arsed to search for it) but given just how many lies came from Russia during the EU referendum and during the US election campaign, I could see it being true.

Russia are doing a very good job of destabilising the Western world.

They are merely using the tools that we have available.

In more ways than one...

Got on a train today for the first time since 2019. I know many of you will have already been on one recently. Lots of masks on the way there, very few on the way back.

You'll be glad to know the crazy street preacher who screams about Jesus at people in the Bullring has made it through the pandemic. I flashed him the devil horns \m/ as I went past. I bet he has missed me, too.

Masks still mandatory on trains on the next island.

Try it without and you can explain yourself to the chap in the fur coat.
