Just incase you want to send in comments, the lady who helped you is called Julie S. I've passed on your thanks.

It took some detective work in finding this out, I can tell you!

I completed the customer feedback yesterday on the link you sent. My description of the two ladies that helped wasn't very good I'm afraid but hopefully they'll track the other one down as well.

Was Julie the one who helped at the till or the one who helped me with the shoes?

Ooooh I think the shoes, as she works in clothing, still no idea who the other person was though!

Cuffy for Boots Opticians unfortunately. They had done well in accommodating me after Specsavers failed tell me they didn't accept the workplace voucher i had. I did the eye exam a few week ago and was told I didn't require varifocals but they would have a lenses with a stronger section to aid with close up VDU work.

I returned yesterday to select the frames, and with a little help from the other half found a pair that didn't look ridiculous on my head, and only £100. I went to process the order....couldn't do that as there wasn't a paper record of my test result in my file....despite me having my prescription with me there was comings and goings until finally they got it done. I went to pay (luckily i had a voucher for £75) and was told the total was £170. It appears the lenses i were having were special and hence the increased cost.

The lady serving me failed to grasp that at no point in either the eye exam or the 20 minutes processing the order than anyone had mentioned that the lenses would be so much more. In hindsight it makes sense I was staggered that no one thought it normal to mention it. All she could say was "well we can just make then distance glasses".....

Every time I go to the opticians I wonder who actually has eyes that need just "standard" lenses because every little thing seems to be an add-on.

And yes it isn't just Boots that fail to inform customers of additional charges.

After being "ripped off" several times and often things I thought being in the price not being provided, I now make the optician go through all of my order, checking whether all options have been considered and agreed before agreeing to the price. This is often long-winded but at least I know exactly what I am paying for.

I had some polarising sunglasses from Specsavers a month ago. The optician said they'd try and sell me anti glare which I didn't need as that is what polarisation does; and they did.

To be honest I'm not surprised they were extra (nothing comes for free these days) but the lack of accountability is what pi$$es me off most. If it wasn't for the fact I had the voucher to use I would have walked....

Skill points to the ASDA opticians today. Mended the broken spring loaded 'leg' on my specs and replaced the nose pads. Free, gratis and for nothing. Top service.
As mentioned some time ago, my small survey of Stafford opticians found them to be excellent, both in terms of cost and genuine professionalism.

I'm grateful for your report, as I ought to get done again in the near future.

I found that "You can have" meant fifty quid more every time it was said at Specsavers, yet it meant I could actually just have it at Asda. Zero pomposity and a genuine service.

Vision express as well were quoting me prices for my varifocals and reading glasses last time I went , just focusing on pushing the buy one and get one half price...then when the payment was being processed the price suddenly escalated because the price quoted hadn't actually included the fact that they were varifocals ....different size lenses for the glasses etc etc , and the offer didn't actually include the lenses.

I usually use specsavers and so does the minime, last year minime went on her own for the first time, the lady optition was very rude to her & made her remove her mask, so thus year the carer went with.... The other reason fir this is that last year I ended up paying nearly £200 for minimes glasses.... Even though she was 15yrs old, and most stuff should have been free.

Lo & behold, when the carer went with her EVERYTHING was free.... No cost at all, no random changes to lenses etc...

So I'm wondering if Asda might be better for me as they seem to have had the best reviews....

Do asda do contact lense checks & contact lenses? , I predominantly wear lenses and only glasses early morning or when I'm ill.

Any help would be great, I'm not sure I trust specsavers at all anymore.
