The South Walls court building shut in 2017 as part of a series of magistrates’ court closures across the country.

Now Staffordshire County Council has acquired the site from Homes England for redevelopment as part of the Eastgate Regeneration Scheme.

Staffordshire County Council is working with Stafford Borough Council and other organisations to bring vacant sites off Eastgate Street back into use as part of wider improvements for the town centre.

Tbh, I didn't even know they were actively reviewing this area to be worked on.

I wonder if they'll take the same approach as Riverside, as in compulsory purchase the lot and start with a level playing field again.

Why haven't HE done anything with the site? They are a government organisation with the sole task of bringing forward derelict / vacant sites, which they've clearly failed to do.

So the picture had nothing at all to do with the article, which was about demolishing the magistrates court building, and closing South Walls for four weeks while they do it.

Here's another pretty picture from the County Council website from where the original story was copied of "how redevelopment in the Eastgate area could look". No indication of which building this might be replacing.

Is that trees and fountains? Has the artist ever visited somewhere that Stafford Council 'look after'?

Looking at @Wormella's pix is this going to be a full demolition/rebuild or a revamp of the existing buildings ? Looking at it on Google Earth there doesn't look to be that much difference as it stands .. :hmm:
