You'll be saying there's no such thing as slimy green blob aliens with strange experimental probes which they use on people after abducting them when they're on their way home from the pub next.

:eek::eek::eek:
None of that is true.

A few pubs reported as being haunted in the area.

Acton Trussel.Moat House Hotel, Reputedly home to ghost 'George'. Staff always consult George about any changes that are going to be made. In recent years, George has been confining himself to the 15th century part of the building. The appearance of a phantom cat has also been reported, and there are references to a lady in white and a young girl in a shawl appearing.

Blithbury. Bull & Spectacles. Claims that 3 ghosts are present were investigated by West Midlands Ghost Club in 2006

Bradley, Red Lion. Old pub near Stafford, part claimed to have been originally the village mortuary. There have been claims that it was haunted. The licensee in 2006 did not believe in ghosts but said there were strange, unexplained happenings. No information prior to this landlord, no reports from subsequent licensees.

Brereton, Hollybush. The building, now a private house, is supposed to be haunted by the ghost of a serving girl. A little girl has been seen playing outside the building, then disappearing.

Brewood, Swan. The pub has been reorted as having a “long history”of being haunted with a feeling of being watched”. A member of staff at one time refused to stop in one part of the building on his own.

Cannock/ Hatherton, Four Crosses Inn. There have been lots of claims of haunting, certainly from the 1980s on. A person working in the pub in the 1980s claimed bottles flew off shelves & Room 1 has unpleasant atmosphere. Early reports of something brushing past people in the Ladies toilets, originally a bottle store, have evolved in the 21st century into a small girl who was responsible for her brothers death, then into a fictional black eyed girl, then into a black eyed girl who was the spirit of one of the victims of the Cannock Chase Murderer. With the pub becoming well known as a venue for psychic events there have been all sorts of spirits claimed to be present, a nineteenth century drunk named Charlie, a middle-aged woman, a soldier, the ghost of a young boy called Scotty, and Robert Harvey, a former customer, is also reputed to haunt the pub. Activity has been recorded in various parts of pub. There have been a lot of reported happenings here and quite a lot of historical research carried out. Unfortunately there has been a lot of confusion caused by psychics' fairy stories.

Cannock/ Hatherton, Longford House. In 2005 the manageress wrote to local paper asking if anyone could help find their ghost, which had ceased to appear after recent building work. No other details are known.

Eccleshall, Royal Oak. There have been reports of ghostly activity, but no definite information has been found.

Great Haywood (Pasturefield), Coach & Horses. The pub closed in the 1980s. Reputedly a former licensee, name usually given as Reggie Smith, hanged himself. His ghost was supposed to haunt the pub and the road outside.

Hednesford, Cross Keys. The pub was reputedly haunted by a small boy, supposedly one who died while keeping look-out at an illegal cock-fight, possibly by falling from the rafters. In a 2005 book it was also claimed to be haunted by a sailor supposedly murdered by Palmer the poisoner. I believe Palmer has been suspected of murdering a prize fighter at the inn, but have not seen a sailor identified as one of his victims.

Little Bridgford, Worston Mill. Yet another ghost known as George has been reported here, details unknown.

Moddershall, Boar Inn. A report has said that the pub is haunted by the ghost of a soldier who hanged himself during WW II.

Norbury Junction, Junction Inn. A newspaper reported in 2006 that during an all night vigil by West Midlands Ghost Club furniture was moved without any obvious cause.

Penkridge, Horse & Jockey. Two small girls have been seen in different parts of the pub, one was seen on several occasions by a workman carrying out building work. A man/dark shape has been seen moving across one area of the pub. An oppressive atmosphere has been felt in one upstairs room. Psychics fairy tales have distorted the records.

Rugeley, Britannia/Kelly’s Bar. A ghostly black dog was supposed to roam the former pub, now a vets.

Rugeley, Mossley Tavern. The ghost of a lady dressed in white has been seen.

Rugeley, Shrewsbury Arms/Talbot. John Parson Cook, the last of Palmers victims, died in room 10. One book published in the 1930s mentions people paying to view the room,in the 19th century but does not mention haunting. A modern book quotes someone who worked there in the 1930s as mentioning stories then of hauntings, and describing sounds of knocking on the door, people walking and talking. Modern accounts claim William Palmer, rather than his victim, haunts the place.

Rugeley, Vine. The pub is supposed to be haunted by the ghost of a child. There have also been reports of the ghost of a coachman and a third, unidentified ghost.

Rugeley, Unidentified pub, on outskirts of town. A book published in 2005 reported that in the 1990s ghosts of a man in working clothes, a small girl and a lady in grey had all been seen but did not identify the pub.

Salt, Holly Bush. A 1993 press report said that “many of its customers think that it is haunted” but did not dive ant details.

Stafford, Antelope. A number of sources fron the 1980s to the early 2000s have reported that the cellar is reputedly haunted. Now closed.

Stafford, Bird in Hand. A former landlady claimed she has sensed the presence of a small girl in the pool room and that her dogs avoid the area.. During a private family party someone spotted an elderly man in the bar who vanished, he did not match the description of anyone on the premises which were locked.

Stafford, Butlers Bell. A person posting on a local forum said "I did hear of occurrences in what is now the Butlers Bell. Friends I knew who worked there when it was Apres, reported voices and banging coming from the cellar (located toward the back of the building and the car park). Several people have said the same thing during their time there."

Stafford, Coach & Horses. Reputedly haunted by the ghost of a former landlord and a Victorian girl.

Stafford, Malt & Hops/ Island. The ghost of old lady has been reported to appear in the cellar. Pub originally the King William IV, renamed Dirty Duck in 1960s, Malt & Hops in 1970s, and the Island 2004. Closed 2008 now an Indian restaurant.

Stafford, Picture House. The pub was an old cinema and staff have claimed activity in the old projection room. Footsteps and muffled voices have been heard crossing the balcony after closing time.

Stafford, Shrewsbury Arms. A lady in white has been seen in the bar

Stafford, The Surgery/Noah’s Ark/Pie & Ale House/Stafford Ale House/Redrum. The pub was owned by William Palmer’s wife when he married her. Later became offices, reverted to pub late 20th c. Reports includes noises from an empty bar and furniture being moved about inexplicably, cold spots in different parts of the building and mobile phones registering non-existent calls. Another occurrence involved a technician being physically pushed while apparently alone. Crying has been heard in the empty ladies' toilet. It is claimed there are three spirits present - 1 male, 1 female and that of an animal but who believes psychics?

Stafford, Swan Hotel. In the 1940s and 50s, the manager's family reported regular sightings of a female ghost. This so called White Lady was seen again in the 1970s in the manager's bedroom, he woke up with a jolt one night to see the ghost standing beside his bed. She is still reported wandering the corridors. One live-in chef was so disturbed by her presence he quit his job.

Stafford, Vine. Various sources have reported "The pub is reputedly haunted" without giving any details.

Stafford, Waggon & Horses. Various reports, mainly referring to the 1960s have mentioned voices heard in cellar, and dogs refused to go into the cellar. Objects, including a sofa, have been moved elsewhere in pub without obvious cause.

Uttoxeter, George & Dragon. The pub was reputedly haunted by the ghosts of an elderly woman, a man in his 30s & a young boy. Pub closed & converted into flats.

Uttoxeter, Red Lion. The ghost of a policeman has been reported in the cellar.

Uttoxeter, White Hart. There have been reports of hauntings at the pub but without any detail.

Wolseley Bridge, Wolseley Arms. Strictly some occurences are near the pub rather than in it. From the pub assorted emergency vehicles seen & heard. sirens of old fashioned bells are heard and flashing blue lights are seen as though attending an accident, but there proves to be nothing there. A serious accident outside the pub in the 1930s would not account for the modern blues and twos. A figure of a man is seen at dusk and a man apparently in Quaker garb have also been reported as being seen in the pub.

This is a post about pubs reputed to be haunted, not about ghosts.

Exactly what I wanted, I just didn't phrase it correctly!

Wow! Amazing facts and very interesting!

I can tell you that the 'Antelope' Stafford, Stone Rd, is now both a private home and also a private motorcycle museum... Invitation only I believe.

Lots of info that I didn't know about pubs I (used) to go into.... Holly Bush, Antelope, Bird in Hand, Coach & Horses, Malt and Hops, The Surgery, The Swan, The Vine, Waggon & Horses...

I had heard about the 4 crosses (who hasn't) I bet there are others too, just not documented.... Places like Weston Hall maybe... Not exactly pubs, but public houses....?

Yes, caught out, with ghosts, polterguiests, and anomilys....

Weren't pubs used as court houses at one time?

Just realised that it is impossible to derail this thread because it is a bar and people are free to talk about whatever they want.

Well unless the bar owner (you know who he is) decides some subjects are taboo and you're barred.

Speaking of the bar owner, has anyone heard from @Mudgie recently? He seems to have gone quiet since I opened this bar for him.

Maybe he's barred himself?

One or two people might remember a landlord retiring from a pub in Stafford and living a few hundred yards away.

Within a couple of weeks, he was barred by the new landlord, who wanted to change a few things slightly and got fed up with the 'helpful' comments about the changes.

Visited the Brewhouse and Kitchen (formerly the Forest House) in Chester on Saturday night and sampled a few of their beers which are brewed on site.

All good pints and interesting building.
I've used their Lichfield and Bournemouth B& K venues and thought they were like an upmarket version of David Bruce's Firkin pubs in the 1980s.
In Chester I'll mostly use the Old Boot.

Caught part of a programme called Mighty Cruise ships today and one had its own microbrewery on board. Have you been to that one @Mudgie?

I think it was called Carnival Vista or something similar.
No, the only boats I've been on this century have been to and from the Isle of Man and Scilly Isles and the Windermere ferry.

So, @Mudgie and everyone else, what can you tell me about Stafford/Staffordshire most haunted pubs..... Why do so many appear to be haunted? Is it because they've been there years and years so have lots of history, or a place where hangings took place, or because of the clientele?

Give me some interesting facts about pubs!
No, I don't really know about haunted pubs.

The only landlord retiring from a pub in Stafford and living a few hundred yards away I know asked me what I was doing in Falmouth town centre.
I replied that I was on holiday and going to the Seven Stars.
