Stafford Cinema - ups & downs.

Also don’t forget meerkat movies. You used to be able to get a really cheap travel policy for a day costing a few £. Then 2 for 1 cinema tickets for a year (tues and wed)

Last time we went Odeon we spent like £65 . £12 each on tickers and like £20 each on the food and drink options .
Maybe that's what the other cinema could have done, like proper food.

Although I heard there's projection and building issues now. Most likely having the building empty for such long periods during lockdown unfortunately caused irreversible damage.

I always went the old cinema , loved just picking a film randomly when in town for £5.

My EFL season ticket works out at £5.22 a match.
Lucky you - that’s dirt cheap - a lot cheaper than I have ever paid for an EFL ticket. My point still stands about the cinema not being as expensive as a lot of other things. You can spend more on a couple of drinks if you wanted.

I find the high price keeps the idiots out. Watched Blade Runner 2049 at the old cinema, group of 20 somethings talking through it. Saw Dumbo at the new cinema, completely silent, no talking (the sound system is probably louder and hides it) and even my friend visiting from Las Vegas was impressed at the cinema.

This is something that has worked well for independent places elsewhere, being the novelty of a full on meal and a drink with your movie in some instances.

If you're likely to see more than one movie a month, it's definitely worth getting Odeon Limitless imho. I think it's come down to £12.99 per month currently and you can see as many movies as you like in that time. I've not been making much use of it during the pandemic but before that I was going all the time.

I got to thinking about the 'Odeon' as I still call it. I believe when it was built before World War Two it was considered quite an advanced building, 'Art Deco' style. Then you think about the 'Picture House,' a classic frontage built before World War One. Then there's that part Roman style of frontage of the 'Sandonia,' built just after World War One I think as both cinema and theatre.
Pretty classy stuff for a West Midlands industrial town.
I've seen so many films in all three and nostalgia is fine, but, (and as Ned Stark famously said, all the words before the word 'but' can be disregarded,) you can't argue with George Harrison: 'All Things Must Pass.'

PS .. (clearly George was a student of the Second Law of Thermodynamics.) :|

Enjoying a drop of red.
I used to love going to the cinema and watching a variety of genres. In the last 10 years though there's been nothing that appeals to me other than the latest Bond or MI. We went to see the Bond movie at some mahoosive screen affair in France last week and it was excellent. I can only imagine how much better it would be in a proper language...

That's the thing about the old cinema, it was good when it was built, but it hasn't been fit for purpose for decades.

Like you, I have lots of good memories about watching films there, plus the Saturday Club back in the 70s but the last few times I visited, the experience was not pleasant. Long before the new Odeon was built, I had started to travel to Uttoxeter to watch films and sit in comfort rather than use Stafford Cinema.

I was talking about Premier League or EFL football, not non-league.
I stopped being interested in Premier league / efl 20 odd years ago. Fed up of being ripped off.
Yeh but everyone knows the ending way before the interval at the Rangers 🤣🤣🤣

Thankfully things have changed this season (about time!). We've now get a decent team and win games, which has been a rarity in the last two seasons.

We are currently just hovering outside of the play offs.

I will be there today. I can't keep away from the place.

I was only joshing. I've managed to get to two Rangers games this season and enjoyed both despite Rangers losing.

The way United are playing I might opt for watching Rangers for a while 😂😂😂
