Now that the Western Access Road is open, is it time to look east again?

These were the tentative plans in 2013.

of which only section A was deemed of high value in an independent report to the Council.

I'm sure this will be revisited many more times.

If you went to Riso in the 90s this was probably your geography GCSE coursework. I think I might have my map somewhere...

Hawk,
Thanks for that which I think is a later truncated version.
I remember the original idea including from St Thomas Lane to the A34 at Queensville and then to the A449 at Acton Gate - and with the M6 that would have made a complete ring road for Stafford.

Of course, Stafford only has two motorway junctions because the M6 was built in sections and so had to 'end' at a suitable 'old road' so that the A449 could carry the entering/exiting traffic for a while, and a northern junction was then felt necessary for traffic intending to actually exit/access the town to/from a northerly direction. Otherwise, a place the size of Stafford would most likely have justified one junction, probably on the Newport Road.

What fun that would be...

But the original plan was for three junctions, the two we have plus one on the Newport Road.

How Baswich could have looked, 1948 proposed plans…. (Including Wildwood)
That's fascinating though confusing with north to the left not top..
Houses look very few and far between on the lower right corner that became Wildwood, with the cemetery and crem at Wildwood Park.

No.
Climate change.
new roads are now bad.
Local active travel networks are the new good.
Make Stafford a place you would want to go, and make it safe to walk or cycle there.
Stay local, spend local - It's the future ;)

Personal view, (and I used to live there so still have a bit of NIMBY about me!!) , is that any bypass on the eastern side would work best from Tixall Road straight down to a513 (by waltons garage). I never understood any scheme that involves using the existing bridges or Baswich lane. I get there’s a sewage plant to work around but still it would seem preferable from a traffic flow perspective to channel it all in that direction.

Yes, and that's surely a straighter version of the 'B' (blue) and 'C' (green) sections on the plans from 2013.

I believe only sections A & B are protected, everything else was dropped a few years ago. About the time houses were built on the old Walton Garage overflow car park. Section A - Hydrant Way and then the further extension through the new estates to St Thomas Farm on Baswich Lane.

I don't know about by Walton Garage but there's certainly a gap been left in the new housing for Hydrant Way to continue between the Tixall Road and St Thomas Lane.

The road at Hydrant Way traffic lights will continue across and join up with St Thomas Lane. It’s been on the plans ever since the Redrow estate was started. St Thomas Lane will then be blocked off just past Bupton Road so it’s only for access to the houses.

How long did it take, and what did it cost, for a small section of road to link Burleyfields to the Doxey Road, and for Doxey Road to bridge a fraction of a mile to the Stone Road?

Imagine that from Junction 13 to Hydrant Way.

That's as much a reason it won't happen as any other.
