How long have you lived in Stafford?

Thank you for making me realise I'm not alone! Stafford is such a nothing place to live blighted by the worst of a shite transport system and urban planning with no care for the environment, green anything or the creation of quality communities to live. I can't think why anyone would choose to live here :(.
We moved here from Yarnfield purely because the ex husband works/worked at 16MU/RAF Stafford/ whateveritscallednow. Neither of us really wanted to, but we got 1 of those move in schemes with the house at Baxter Green, the builder paid so much now and you pay back in 5 years, either through getting a loan or moving. Loved the house, absolutely hated the neighbours either side. The feelings were mutual.
Apart from not being able to afford a home in Stone, I work at St.Georges, it's close enough that I can walk, but far away enough so I don't see anyone from there when I'm off.

In my case my job of 12 years was here. But that ended in 2016 and I will be doing remote work from now on due to not wanting to leave furry companions alone in the day.

I have a really fast broadband connection that I doubt I'd get in any more attractive location.

I will say this, where I am in Hillcroft Park is very quiet for the most part. I lived in a more rural location in Cannock and you heard a lot of cars racing about the lanes at night. Plus farm machinery isn't quiet.

Just because others opinions are different than your own doesn't make them invalid. I enjoy living here and am not going to keep having subtle digs at people that don't.

1974, as a kid. I liked it back in the day but I'm fed up now with the narrow minded mentality of many, the dominance of the car, the infernal traffic, the massive number of new houses with no additional facilities for them to use, and the sheer bloody minded incompetence of the council, both local and county. Be gone green space and anything good for the environment.

I'm just sitting it out waiting for daughter to settle and then I'll be off to live somewhere more suited to my values.

Loved Northern Scotland when we went and hugely jealous of the quality of life @That-Crazy-Rat-Lady is now living.

I'm genuinely baffled how anyone can like this place?
It's certainly not for everyone up here - I've just recovered from 6 days without power. England would be in uproar if that happened!

I really do adore Stafford and personally think it's a wonderful place to live!

I love the Stafford pride that locals have and the general bashing of Stoke on Trent!

Was born at the top end of Stone Rd, in 1963, opposite the sheep fields that were to become Parkside. I have photo's of me in the front garden with the pre-Parkside fields in the background, but I can't remember them! I went to Holmcroft school, then Tillington when it was built, then Balfour till I went to University in Sheffield. I went to live in Scarborough with my girlfriend in 1984; we had met in Stafford, Balfour but I was at Uni' when we got together! We maintained a long distance relationship, and despite the challenges, 80 - 150 miles apart, her re-sitting A-levels, meaning we graduated 3 years apart. Spending 8 months separated, added to the tension/entertainment/friends and families angst! We finally ended up living together in Rochdale, when she got her first teaching post there! We decided when we had our first child, after looking at the various possibilities, that our birth places was the place we wanted to bring up a family. Our family and many of our old friends live here, or at least within easy travelling distance. I think that neither of us us, regret coming back to Stafford after 11 years.

Born in Liverpool, moved to Manchester when I realised where I was at two, moved to Haughton when I was 1972 and Gnosall in 1985.

Then moved around the country from 1987 to 1991 before moving back to Stafford where I've lived ever since.

Born at Groundslow hospital in 1980 and lived in the North end of Stafford until I was 8. Family relocated to Gailey and I lived there until I was 18.

At 18 i went to the University of Manchester for 4 years, then lived in Shrewsbury, Heath Hayes and Dubai.

I returned to Stafford in 2009 and have no intentions of leaving. I moved to Stafford when I wanted to start a family.

I love Stafford. It has always felt like home and its a good place to raise a family. Yes, it's got a few problems but so has many other towns and cities.

I only lived in Stafford for a couple of years but I’ve lived within 15 miles of it (in almost every direction) for all but the first 4 years of my life.

I'm going to put in a reverse posting to this thread. Born and bred in Stafford (in the SGI, don't know if the exact room is still there in what's left of the SGI so the blue plaque might be gone too. :P ) Lived in Silkmore Lane, John Amery Drive, Sheridan Street (the longest) and my own house in Mynors Street.
Attended Flash Ley School, Corporation Street, Kingston and a short stint at the Grammar School before I skinned out. Was at sea for quite some years while still living in Stafford. I was a bit of a fish out of water when Thatcher succeeded where Karl Dönitz had failed, but eventually got a job with the Civil Service and when I finished training they said go to Cornwall or sod off. I didn't really want to go, I liked Stafford and was nicely set up in Mynors St (only a couple of minutes walk from two good pubs.) But .. the pay was a big attraction so off I went.
I did think about moving back when I retired, but really couldn't handle the hassle, and I'd pretty much settled in to bumpkinsville. Also when visiting Stafford in recent times I felt like a stranger in a strange land. :(

Born here in 84, have lived here since. Have been wanting to move to Liverpool for several years but several things (and then a pandemic) have stopped that from happening thus far.

Daughter has recently moved to Toxteth. Best decision she's ever made and Liverpool is the best city ever!
