Here it is, a Hummingbird Hawk Moth, not a very good picture though, he's in between the 2 middle fence posts, near the top of the middle one on the right...

It looked bigger in real life!

Decided to get the back and side lawns cut before we went away on Sunday, went to the mower and not enough juice in the tank even to prime it. A quick run to Newport, I never thought I'd see the day when it cost a tenner to get fuel for the mower, didn't even fill my container.
'New' Clematis is looking good though even if it's later than the others.

We had rain forecast for 11am where I am, and it arrived at one minute past - the first measurable rain for fourteen days, though.

I got up a bit early and removed the first growth from (most of) the Aubrieta/Aubretia*, so we might get a decent second run from it now, after the rain.

I managed to get it all shredded, spread and churned in, literally as the first drops fell. It looks like steady rain now, into the early evening - it will do some good generally - and it will get the plots' composting actively again - and refill the butts.

* I wonder if that is the most misspelled flower name? It is rare to see it the right way and I don't think I've ever heard anybody say it properly, based on the correct spelling.

Today, I pulled out (most of) the weeds in the accidental flower bed, anything that was up to around the height of the marigolds. From here on, if I've timed it right, they should swamp anybody of smaller stature - it worked very well last year.

Not bad, considering that nothing has been deliberately planted or sown there for the last five years.

Looks really pretty but how did you grow the big blue plant on the left? 😂

That hedge is probably intent on swamping everything else within the next five years.

You're right, I refuse to continue and suggest that the above posts be disposed of.

But, we might have to wait a fortnight for that...

IMG-20220703-WA0000.jpgIMG_20220707_195849.jpgIMG_20220709_090616.jpg Our potato haul and some of our berry haul so far this year. The potatoes in the colander are Pentland Javelin and we test harvested 1 pot and got just under 1kg (2lb 14.5oz). The green bowl ones are Charlotte's and we got 1.8kg (4lb ish) We have another 2 30l pots of each that we are going to give another couple of weeks to. The currants are finished now apart from a small harvest of red ones. The strawbs are ongoing. The tomatoes are going mad. I may have to give some away when they are ready. Sunstripe, Losetto, Romello and Honeycomb. I don't have pics of the rhubarb but it's delicious.
