What about money to regenerate the actual centre of town?
Nope, regeration is not seen as a good investment anymore, much better to start on massive projects which can attract investments and tax breaks, shift the "town centre" away from it's dilapidated present to a new shiny future just up the road

If they aren't going to tackle the poor road network in Stafford then they should stop building homes with driveways and roads. They can have a delivery access road and that's it.

Indeed, it first started with the building of Queens and the Hough, all drawing retailers and footfall away from the town centre then Riverside and the keenness of the council to shift the focus away from Market Square.
More money to be 'made' by doing it badly a few times than by doing it right once.

No one in their right mind would build that amount of office space. The only way to get people back to the office is to make their working from home space so damn cold in winter that they can't afford the heat it. Sorted.
But because someone has to make a killing somewhere along the line we'll keep fuel prices high too.

I can’t wait for this innovation hub which I’m sure will be just as innovative as Silicon Stoke

Stafford Technology Park, where pretty much every unit is just general offices. There's even a vets in one of them. When I took a job there in 2004 the best internet connection they supplied was something like 2mb ADSL. On a technology park!!

IIRC the council removed the technology part of the requirements right before they moved into several units themselves. I was there around the same time and yup, 2mb was all we could get. We were actually a tech company too!

Yeah you can still only get ADSL if you don’t go with a leased line, as it stands we provide a share of a gigabit leased line to a handful of tenants in our little section of the tech park because of it.

And yeah… our landlord is constantly moaning about the lack of actual tech in the technology park. I can count them on two hands I’m pretty sure, and can see them all from my office window
