Navvys* darling

*I imagine it's not a political correct term in this day & age, but my nan always went on about 'Dirty Navvys'.... amongst other things....

Navigators would certainly be dirty in 1849 because of the nature of their work and lack of facilities to wash

I have no idea of the Nationality of HS2 workers but I don’t imagine there are many using grafters or sleeping rough

Sort of related, a new charter service is running from Euston to Manchester via Crewe and will stop at Stafford for the following 3 Fridays. They are offering an entire 1st class fleet, one way is £75.
New charter train...

Glad she’s home safe. We were in this position a few weeks ago & ended up having to do a pick up. What a shithole brum is. Getting to new st area by road is a nightmare (& it cost £8 caz charge & that’s a pain in the arse trying to pay)
Maybe someone should move there to compare with Stafford.

Needed to drive to brum a few times and never had any issues either finding the website or paying the charges....

What I will say is that there should be a function to check a car reg and if it has been in the zone, as there is for the Dartford crossing....

Yeah that's the part I meant. We were there around midnight & I just had to guess that I was there longer after midnight & hope for the best. Every other toll etc I've been able to enter the reg & check exactly how much I owe.

Be wary of fake Dartford Crossing toll websites

Well if there's a congestion charge in Brum I won't be visiting it again. I used to go to gigs by car since you could never get back home otherwise. But with having two dogs now I wasn't really looking at any trips anywhere.

Oh and the most hilarious thing ever, the London one requires you to register your EV for exemption by going to a website and paying a fee. Just shows the whole thing is a joke. Wasn't the idea of congestion taxes to eliminate congestion?

That's the thing you see, it's not a congestion charge, it's a clean air zone! By charging you if you have to drive there it means you'll still drive there but resent it more and bham council will be quids in. Let's face it, you won't change cars just for the odd time you are forced to visit, so it's just another tax really.

I don't have to pay to go into Birmingham with a 5 year old diesel, if you check you'll probably find you're exempt.
