Chicory does have a root which is baked & ground for use as a food additive or coffee substitute. It also contains inulin, a starch like compound which is also found in Jerusalem artichokes. Roots aren't really like parsnips though.

Warning inulin is starch like but not digestible by humans, however your gut bacteria love it and produce a lot of gas.
I told her I remembered chicory coffee, but she convinced me it was the leaves of a parsnip!

Chicory coffee is really big in France. Disgusting stuff.

Spent the day up at Katharine House Hospice.

Some of you may be aware that my wife was diagnosed 4 years ago with Bowel Cancer. In August she started suffering with chronic neck pain. After a couple of weeks of not getting on top of the pain relief the hospice offered to take her in to manage the pain.

They did this successfully but not until we discovered the cancer had moved to her spine (which was causing the neck pain) and brain (which was affecting her balance). She got booked in for an emergency op last Thursday in Stoke to remove the tumour from her brain.

The hospice have been amazing, taking her back in from the hospital to aid her recovery and rehabilitation. Hospices across the country are going through a funding crisis so please support them as much as you can as the work they do is nothing short of miraculous.

So sorry to hear this, hope you're coping OK yourself? If there's anything we can do to help just ask.

I honestly can’t wait till the FTTP rollout in Stafford is done. Virginmedia Business has to be the most incompetently run business I’ve ever known.
Just make sure you get photos of your property well before the work is done. We had a team turn up unannounced the week before our installation to put the fibre through underground from up the road to where the existing connection under in our porch came out. They dug up the concrete , and said the team doing the fibre install would fill it back in once done. Team next week reckoned it wasn't their job " No concrete on the van, we'll arrange for another team"
Eventually Talk Talk have managed to put in a claim , to get City Fibre, to get Kelly Communications to get it repaired to original condition. They finally offered a cash settlement or them to get the work done . One month later a contractor has contacted me to arrange to come next week .

As they've left it....

Thankfully as we have a brick drive they shouldn’t be able to do too much harm, and we already have some ducts they should be able to use if they feel like it…

I do have a date now by the way, they’ll be starting FTTP in Stafford July 2023 and it’ll take “several months”. This is from Openreach themselves.

Our connection is finally back as of yesterday, but the complaint I’m still gonna be chasing… shall see how much I can get out of them

What's he like, is he the type to get caught up in the fun and let contact fall by the wayside? I can think of several people I know who would do this around a birthday so not necessarily a cause of concern but might be worth trying to give him a call or something? Can you contact anyone he is with?

...

I woke up with dried blood on my hands but no visible cuts, should I be worried...? 🤔😅

Eldest son turned 30 today....but he's in America on holiday (belated due to covid)...no messages or posts since the 5th Sept....not sure if I should be worried or not.... 🤨
That might be concerning. When did he arrive in USA ? Was he in regular communication before the 5th ? Can you contact him ? Does he have any travel companions you can contact - or their families in the UK ? Is he travelling around the US or staying in one location ? If the latter - and you can’t contact him - try contacting local (US) police for any information.
