There needs to be a general countrywide mobilisation of Greater Crested Newts (say 300,000 ?) to stop the planners and speculators in their tracks !
But, if there's too many newts, they won't be 'threatened' any more - there will be people dressing up and hunting them.

Great Created Newts are actually pretty abundant in the UK believe it or not. They are more threatened across Europe. They are a European Protected Species so the UK came under the same legislation when we were part of the EU. Thankfully the EU laws around protected species were commuted into British Law when Brexit happened & remained unchanged (for now!).

which is rather futile as if their new site was suitable there would be some living there already.
No, they would only get moved to somewhere that already supports GCN. If there is nowhere suitable nearby then the other alternative would be to construct them a brand new purpose built site/pond.

Bit off topic sorry, wasn't really worth making a new thread for or another place to put it from what I can see-

Does anyone know if you'll be able to walk to the new pets at home warehouse without getting killed on the a34? anyone seen the development?

I see there's a path on the right of the road once you cross over from the left side via traffic lights (path runs out on the left)- but it's crossing over I'm thinking about once on the right and opposite.

Friend is after a job there when it opens, if that fails I guess he can pedal bike and try and not get killed on the a34 instead.

I was also wondering if its possible to cut through from the industrial estate behind the shire horse to the new one ? I'm assuming our backward council wouldn't have given a thought to pedestrians and cyclists or joined up thinking when they agreed these developments but stand to be corrected.

There is a walkway/cycle path joining the shire horse estate with the Redhill estate.
And eventually there will be a pathway and cycle path down to the new roundabout.

Not sure if the pets at home warehouse will be open to the public.

The planning application travel plan, paragraph 4.8, states:
The proposed foot / cycleway along the A34 Stone Road north of the Redhill Business Park junction will not be completed prior to completion of the roundabout. Therefore, pedestrians and cyclists will be required to utilise the existing foot / cycleway which runs along William Bagnall Drive and Harry Kerr Drive (within the Redhill Business Park) entering the Site at the southwestern corner and utilising the proposed internal paths which connect to the building entrance.

It's still not clear to me if it's possible to get from Shackleton Way to William Bagnall Drive. I've circled in orange. If so that would save going near the A34 at all.

Yes you definitely can.

Just tried to do a screenshot but the image is too large to post.

There's a footpath between Spitfire way and the road that goes to the roundabout on William Bagnall Drive.

This is known as the Wee Way

Because nobody bothered to provide any toilet facilities for the essential workers known as lorry drivers

Sad but true
