I did that before my icy airport early hours run , worked a treat.An old double bed sheet draped over the roof and windows, held in place by the front and rear wipers, will also make for effective frost protection.
And a lot more secure than leaving the car with the engine running, even if you do lock the doors with another key.
I keep getting emails from my insurance reminding that the car isn't covered for theft if car is left running unattended on icy mornings.
I rang the Cannock Vauxhall garage a couple of years ago to find out how much a spare key would be for sons Corsa . (I'd got the 2nd key for it safe in Stafford incase he lost his , but wanted to get him one as a birthday present to keep to hand) .......about £200 because they said they had to actually have the key there with the car and programme it in. (I didn't bother )
