I pay 23 quid to virgin, they tried to raise it by 9! I said it was better they didn't, and they agreed. Contract expires in August, any eta on fibre?

Although it's odd other countries get gigabit in both directions but we never do?

I’ve emailed them to ask, but I did receive a call from OpenReach the other day as a leased line owner, notifying me of exchange and cabinet work in April that may cause an outage and “where can we send the list of engineer numbers if you need to call about a fault on your line?”

They don’t need about with £400 lines I’ll tell you that.

Stafford seems a bit slow getting FTTP . Had it in Stone for the last 2 years.
I watched them rolling fibre down the street in a tiny village on Gozo at least 6 years ago, the uk seems very backwards towards broadband unless in a city because we let private industry choose to only go where the highest profits are.

They prioritised the villages for gigabit because they were still behind the “superfast” curve.

I suppose in the same way… the countries that have very little infrastructure can start fresh with the good stuff.

Plus of course, we did have a nationalised fibre rollout planned but Thatcher the Broadband Snatcher effectively sold it off: https://www.techradar.com/news/world-of-tech/how-the-uk-lost-the-broadband-race-in-1990-1224784

I'll be ringing them just before then. It came down from £95 to £50, started creeping up again.

Scrub that, It's going up by £15 a month starting 1st May. So I'll be paying £70 a month, we only really use the Tinternet, that's at M200 broadband, whatever that is. Maxit TV and the phone line.
Might ring them up, cancel the phone and just take the TV package down to the basic.

£97 a month here but that is the 500MB broadband, phone (even though it's never used) and MaxIt TV. I also have Sky Sports which alone is £35 a month. It should be £132 a month but I have a 'discount' until May. Will be ditching Sky Sports and seeing what else I can get off to save money when I have to ring them in May.

I was paying £68.00 for broadband and telephone, went on the chat and it was reduced to £35.00 this was 6 weeks ago. I tried to do the same with Sky TV I was paying £64.00 I had Sky Sports and BT sports plus the signature channels. They tried to up it to £79.00 I refused, they offered to carry on at £64.00 buy I still refused and cancelled. I purchased Virgin stream which is a one off cost of £35.00 then £28.00 a month for Sky Sports and BT sports for 18 months. Just Virgin stream is similar to freeview, you can buy other apps like Netfli.

Broadband only from Virgin Business, 350/20 for £48

Ours is irritating as we need to commit to a 2 year package to go onto what is now a cheaper plan with a 400Mbps speed… but after the fiasco in September where I discovered a “24 hour SLA” means 3 business days (8x3 hours) I’m not committing to anything with them when I know FTTP is on its way.

Swings and roundabouts with business broadband I guess, we’ve had the same price since 2016, but also the same speed…

What is fftp

Actual Fibre. The stuff advertised right now is fibre to the cabinet down the street and copper the rest of the way which is why BT, etc has been the same speed for the best part of a decade, this would be fibre all the way to your router.

I gave up on BT and now use 5G from 3 for £20/month including 5g hub for 24 months, they have a 30 day trial to see how it works out if interested.
If you live in the centre town or along the M6 the coverage is excellent, way better than the 50 Mbps that BT provided.
