Yet another example of how well society is doing..

No, it wasn't!

Back to the thread. I believe that I am correct in saying that the Soham girls could have come into contact with Ian Huntley even if the new system was in operation then, as the conduit for the meeting was his teaching assistant girlfriend and, if he had chosen to work in a non-checked environment, rather than the other school, then nobody would have checked him, even if he had been convicted.

What about people who are in the situation where you have a partner with kids and you look after them when s/he is away or working or whatever, do you have to have disclosure then too?
No. You can do what you like at home. Communal school runs are an issue, though. They are vague about where the tipping point is.
Fair enough. I suppose the point of contention will be after school clubs held at a parent's home, for example when I was a nipper I went to a friend's house after school (was picked up by their parents along with their son) for two hours whilst my parents finished work. The parent I stayed with was not affiliated with the school at all except in this way and along with me, another two boys also stayed for the same reason. As far as I'm aware no money was ever exchanged and it was purely done as a favour amongst friends.

I appreciate from the story that the car journey alone warrants the disclosure, however what about the 'club' held at home, would that be seen as visiting friends or as a potential 'situation'?

I guess we shall have to wait and see how this pans out.
Mmm i thought your doctrine was if you cannot look after your own children you shouldn't have them?.......

Fair comments, I agree with you that the proposed system would have made no difference in this case, which makes it very odd that it is cited as a hefty reason for it.

This smacks of the government doing that they think is right, and is clearly wrong and after the Huntley case, baby P and so on there has been a kneejerk reaction... "Quick lets do something to protect kids to make it look like we're proactive. Who cares if its pointless?"

So if living under your proposed regime, your folks would be shot/castrated or maybe you would of been terminated?.........

How did you come to that conclusion? My problem is people on benefits having kids, or more likely, more kids. In fact I'd go as far as to say that I am sure I have mentioned that part of my regime would incorporate having employment as a prerequisite for having children.

Make your mind up, either the kids are looked after or not, now if you or any other kids get 'farmed' out, where do the parents stand? or are there sub-sections still to be written/fantasised ?...........

For a couple of hours after school I was under the care of a family friend / mother of one of my peers because my parents were out working to put food on the table sans handouts, why on earth would I or anyone have a problem with that? Not to mention both of my parents are educated, law abiding citizens who worked damned hard to raise my brother and I without a single ounce of help from the state, whilst putting us through good schools and opening up extra cirricular opportunities for us.

At no point have I ever said I have had a problem with this, I have stated several times that my issues lie with people who cannot look after their children due to financial, emotional and social insecurity and those who are so ill educated and unambitious that the only thing they can pass onto their unwelcome offspring is a working knowledge of the benefits system and how to turn common assult into a slap on the wrist.

Have you been on the beer this afternoon or had a stroke or something because you're comments are even more nonsensical than usual.

come on basil, i don't agree with shoes' proposed regime in the slightest, but even i can see you are trying to make a point here where there isn't one..

Perhaps Basil i put out by this because his own parents would have been rejected under the proposed?

the point is that the wise one suggests all kind of nonesense without any real thought apart from bombastic knee-jerk opinion......in my opinion.........

It is your duty as a citizen to undermine these tossers.

I bought a silage thermometer at the boot sale once. It would come in handy for checking if the compost heap was heating up nicely. It is a meter long spike with a dial thermometer on the end, which shows the temperature at the tip. The chap I bought it off was selling mostly commercial catering equipment and so I asked him why he had this. He said that he had had a restaurant at one time and the clipboard boys used to come round annually and demand to check the calibration of his ovens. He used to set the ovens at 200ºC, let them heat up and the shove this thermometer in. As soon as it got to 200 they were happy - despite the fact that it was clearly showing Fahrenheit and had the words 'Silage Thermometer' in red on the dial. He did that for ten years. I was impressed.
