Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Just a name change really, although I'd question why bother! It's true about the poor quality though. When we were looking earlier in the year, was really surprised at the condition of the model we went to see. I get that it's potentially wasted money making them perfect when they could be sat...

Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

I'm all up for bashing SBC/SCC wherever necessary, but they get far too much stick for retail matters that have nothing to do with them. For Stafford to have a Department Store, it needs a private organisation to decide to invest £££ to create one, buy the stock, train the staff etc. There's...

Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

In developer speak - it has bus station, supermarkets, town centre shops, pharmacy, pub, fish & chip shop etc... I'm sure they'd love to sell it - what are they going to do with it?! Bring back Sketchleys too! Whilst Timpson's are lauded as "one of the good ones", their decision to buy Mister...

Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

I think it's got the potential to end up being for retirement living i.e. McCarthy Stone. Great city centre location, right next to amenities and transport. Next door at the Guildhall about to be developed into residential too over the next few years. Potential to even include all of Broad...

Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

Just under £1m for that much land in the middle of a town centre is quite cheap I would have thought. Probably £250-£300k to demolish the entire building. If the council had bought this instead of redoing the paving slabs in Market Square, they could have provided a green space in the middle...

Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

You only have to look at the new £10m (I think!) Birmingham New Street store to see that Sports Direct are trying to go a little bit more modern. It's a good thing - but, the bottom end of Stafford might as well now be bulldozed!

    New Train Services To/From Stafford.

My opinion is slightly again the grain here it seems, but I have no objection to closing ticket offices. The vast majority of the country are able to buy tickets on a mobile phone, and those who can't can use the ticket machines - which are substantially better than they were years ago. If...

    New Train Services To/From Stafford.

And this change is horrendous! From Penkridge in the morning, it's now quicker to get a train to Wolves and change trains, than stay on the same train. In the evening, it's now effectively only one train an hour to Penkridge, as the 18:04 overtakes the 17:52 as the earlier train go to TBP.

Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

I'm not convinced another garage will want to move into that spot - my bet in the medium term in another retirement block/complex.

    Wanted Plasterboard offcuts.

    I've got a piece you can have - 1.5m x 0.9m, 12.5mm thick. I'm in Penkridge though...

Anyone play any board games, particularly Scrabble?

We played Sequence a few times over Christmas - really good. Articulate another favourite. Not a fan of Cards Against Humanity. Forced humour isn't great.

    Guildhall closure?

The issue with trains is the cost. If there's 2 people going Stafford to Liverpool tomorrow, that's £50+ in tickets (£100+ on the peak services). It's much better to drive! Did someone mention the Guildhall?

    Curious - Windows 11 rollout

You're doing a fantastic job, but isn't all tech when you think about it a "temporary fix"? They'll always be something new, some upgrade that eventually becomes the norm that we all need.
