Work's due to start today to cut down a tree believed to be around 300 years old at St Mary's churchyard.

Is Tom.Coyne still alive?
Up until last year he was alive and living in Tettenhall. I met him and Amy Turtle when I was about six. Because of my dad's job we used to go to some kind of fete thing at a residential home/school for children with special needs each year. They would always try to get a guest to open it and if that failed, my dad would do it. This particular year they had come-up majorly trumps with Tom Coyne AND Amy Turtle. Tom was extremely nice, both to the resident children and to a totally starstruck me. I'd already had the excitement of being allowed to wear short socks for the first time that year and then found myself drinking tea with a man off the telly in the staffroom. It took me weeks to recover.

I'm wondering how easy it is to find out which trees are protected by a preservation order?

Ring the number in the answer to "How do I know if a tree is protected?"

We were sent a map of trees telling us what had preservation orders on.

A couple of issues was that they often included non native species and missed of a number of native species.

I've also complained to the County Council about over hanging branches, pavement obstruction and ivy growing up trees in Newport Road

No acknowledgement

saw the guys hacking away at it Thursday (22.10.11), one tree chopper was telling a couple of people that the roots had gone (details in the Newsletter) and they may well be replacing it with a sapling, you know, the sort of young tree that gets swung upon and booted around by the nonentities.

Anyway i'd consider that gap created, will be a gap forever more.

Trees trees, glorious trees!
We're anxious to try it.

What actually kills off a lot of trees is compacted soil. People like to walk around the trees, stand by them etc and this compacts the ground such that oxygen etc can't get to the roots. The soil should be freed up now and then.

Has anyone noticed the trees that have been butchered on the opposite side of the queenway to St georges? Surely can't be the developers on that side of the road!

Yes, the the marsh bit. Seems a bit unnecessary to me and very near to where the other trees went down on the other side of the road.
