:stafford: Wandered in yesterday, and spent a bit of time gawping. Very impressive images and photo's of the County, with plenty of Ford. Old photo's of Railway Station, Station Hotel, Gasometer in Chell Rd, Noah's Ark Pub (Pie & Ale), Chetwyn House (Post House), Victoria Park paddling pool, all brought back memories, or reminders!

:ohno: Not only can you, and you have paid for it; I'd say you have a duty to! I always get The Venerable Mrs Seeds important gifts from the craft shop, and any cards there as well, all fairly unique designs from independant artists, that certainly are not the cheapest, but worth it, support artists, and the recipiants probably appreciate your effort more! (Don't tell the deluded indevidual The truth!:ohno: Ed)

I did pop a note in the Art Gallery thread a while back, so it might not have that long left to run.

As for it being 'Council Tax at work', it's not that many years ago that they stopped charging (again) for entry to the High House..

Hang on a minute I'm confused.com by the title of this thread - do you actually mean the exhibition in the Shirehall or is there a different one on in the Gatehouse?
If it is the Shirehall you are talking about me and Mrs FDR have had a look in since it has been re-decorated, looks nice and I like the local flavour it now has with artwork that actually depicts the town and County. If the Gatehouse has one that is different then I haven't been there yet

I have changed the thread title now to avoid further confusion!

Update - April 2012

OK I take back all that I said before on this. The previous exhibition was really interesting, nice images and memories of Stafford. I popped through there today and the artwork that documented the town and actually meant something locally has been replaced by a load of dog pictures and dog models, WTF?!? I'm not a dog person but aside from that it seems that they have removed something that had local resonance with an exhibition that is dull and meaningless - two of the dogs (near to the rear entrance where the Shirehall leads into the library) are actually dry humping - I kid you not, go and see for yourself (presumably kids messing about).
Terrible. I understand that they have to rotate the exhibits to keep it fresh - I just hope "dogs humping" is rotated quickly.

4 exhibits a year, three months each used to be the standard.
Tends to be the open art competition, something to appeal to the kids, something local/ from the archives and something else.

Basically - it's an art gallery, not a museum.

Strangely looking forward to the dry humping dogs. :)

Only a month to go, it finishes on May 13th.

Reggie’s Roller Palace is the latest creation from the highly talented Olivia Brown. Best known for her unique ceramic sculptures of dogs and animals, this show is a vintage take on the modern cult of celebrity. Conveyed with humour, the show sees the return of Elvis The Whippet as a celebrity judge at the Grande fi nale of the annual Canine Roller Dance, hosted by Reggie.
The show features over 100 hand made audience members, acrobatic rollerskating canines and a dog formation team called ‘Kenny and the Keneavils’!
A range of Reggie’s Roller Palace souvenirs will be available alongside a selection of contemporary craft for your pampered pets!
No idea what's next.

Yeah, the front page doesn't look like it's been updated for a while. I like the Open Art exhibit but it always amazes me how many people in Stafford, even the arty types, don't seem to know it exists.

Entry still open until 28th April
