You say home cooked fries, do you mean proper chips or straggly american things? Big thing with the missus is real chips, gets annoyed when you eat out and they just bung some frozen rubbish in the fryer. If you can't make chips I don't trust you with a steak!
Big uns in retrospec home cooked fries were the wrong words.

The missus will enjoy them.
Eaten a few times at Bear and quite agree. Excellent, especially if meat and burgers are your thing. I would like it to be a bit cheaper but that's only because I got used to the traditional £6 meals at other establishments - although of inferior quality i must confess.

There are burgers and burgers and ther is MacDonalds

I work away a lot and find the bear on par in terms of price with a lot of places even up north!

Couldn't make the meeting, but then didn't feel I had that much to input TBH. My thoughts are well known on here, let well behaved kids in and sell a decent cider! Forget the draught, no point taking a pump up with something that goes off quick and may not sell, but bottles are easy enough to get surely? Just one decent bottle, get a few crates in and if it doesn't sell as fast as you'd like try another. I am fast writing off most of the Stafford boozers, as they don't sell a drink I want. Tried the Star and Garter at the weekend, says real ciders on the front but they just had some imported fruit flavoured stuff or a pint of hereford (whish tasted a bit odd).

Give me somewhere I can come in with the GF and kids, that sells a drink I like, and I'll come. Oh, and crisps! Gotta sell crisps, extra points for worcester sauce french fries :D

I was going to suggest Tesco - but we don't want all that happening again, do we?...

You are right. It is me being tight. I am comparing The Bear with such eating places as Wetherspoons. Hardly a fair pricing / quality comparison.

Hi all, I just wanted to tell everyone what excellent service we received at the swam on Saturday! We were served by Natalie who is currently a trainee. We had our little girl with us who they welcomed and provided a decent healthy meal. The adult meals were even better, and all in all not bad value. Definitely my first choice in town :)

Thanks for the feedback, I'll certainly be passing on your praise to Natalie and the rest of the team in the kitchen

Another great night at The Swan last night, good beers, great staff and although I complain about the price, how many pubs can you go to and get a bottle of wine for under 8 quid.

Does The Swan do bar snacks early on a Saturday night?

I saw a menu for some nice looking pizzas on the back of the loo door ages ago. We'll call in for a few drinks and one of them if they do.

(Going down to No15 Juice Comedy Night tonight and could do with something to go with the booze beforehand. )

went for a meal at the swan the other friday for the first time ever. very disappointing. no fish and chips left at 8pm on a friday. had to wait 1.5 hrs for main course to come as three of our table of 5 ordered staters. Edith Piaf Pizza had a really hard cardboard style base, it looked great and tasted rotten. we weren't courtesy checked. Wifes gammon was extremely overcooked and dry. lovely surroundings, well trained and courteous staff, but that counts for nothing when the food takes forever to come and tastes like it's been left & forgotten about in the kitchen.

We had the Al Capone 12" Pizza last night and it came out with a very fresh base and really tasty ingredients for the topping.

It was a nice atmosphere and staff were pleasant.

The bottles of Magners were nice and ice cool which really does make a difference.

A perfect start for a good evening out :)

Ally66 please accept my sincere apologies for our shortcomings on your recent visit, as your review has rightly identified a number of important factors clearly were amiss on your visit. It is even more regrettable when I personally know that our kitchen team are more than capable of delivering first class meals, so I am truly dismayed by our failure.

Needless to say I wouldn't want this to be your first and last visit to The Swan, can I invite you back as our guests and attempt to rectify your faith in The Swan?

I look forward to your response

I was in the Swan early doors tonight , enjoying the Green 'Big Brother' Chairs ( you will know them , when you see them) . However I digress, A couple came through from the car park , pulling suitcases behind them and looking a little travel weary. No sooner were they inside than a young member of the Swan team who was on his way out stopped , gave them a huge smile and asked if they knew how to get to reception. When they replied No , He happily took them down through the hotel in person. The look I saw exchanged between the couple said it all. that little bit of customer service made such a tremendous first impression on the guests and me .
