What we really need in one of these empty shops is a decent second hand book shop that will buy all the books I need to get rid of! :hmm:

Bob Picken's old shop opposite the Gaol was a great loss to the town - I think of it every time I go past.

I saw him a couple of years ago - he still looked exactly the same..

Used to love that place, kept me entertained through my skint student days.

This isn't actually him, but a bloke from Canada with the same name and a striking resemblance...

Jessops has closed. Store was being emptied this morning apparently. Notice on door directing us to another branch. Another notice on door advising us to go to Peter Rogers. They've been doing that a lot. Shop somewhere where they won't put prices on the goods in the window, I don't think so!

I don't know, go away for a week and another shop is gone!!

I went past Jessops a few weeks ago and the staff were huddled outside, possibly just because the one with the key was late, but the possibility of closure did cross my mind at the time. I bought an SD card in there once, when they had a good deal on.

Why won't you shop in a place who doesn't display prices in the window? Can't see the logic in that.

I avoid shopping there for the same reason. If they can't be bothered to help the customer make their choice, then I can't be bothered to check them out. Anyway, what's the logic behind not putting the prices in the window? Am I expected to go in and haggle?

A fabric guy in the market used to do the same, you ask what it cost and he'd ask what its worth to you. Makes very odd business sense, as the buyer always wants to feel they got a bargain and without a frame of reference they always feel it could have been cheaper.

On the basis that if I have to ask I can't afford or if I have to ask I can't be bothered to ask. Seems a very strange way to do business in this day and age to me.

Henry Burton is another culprit.

What about Sainsburys, Tesco and Asda? They don't display prices in the windows.

One usually has a price in mind for what they intend to spend on a item.

So tedious and not to mention time consuming to have to point to a hundred different items..."how much is that one?"

"oh, ok, how much is that one."

"I see, and how much is that one"

"oh dear, and that one...how much"

I also prefer to shop where they can be bothered to make life easier for me.

With the closure of JJB Sports looming, this is a disaster not only for the staff but for Stafford too. It's either going to mean the Guildhall will have the shutters down of the JJB Sports entrance all the time... or if it gets bought by Sports Direct, this is likely to mean the large old Woolworths site will once again become vacant :/

Thoughts?
