Certainly not disputing Tinkerbell's experience, but mine was the polar opposite, I had Jason Roberts recently - he was prompt reliable and did a good job at a reasonable price.

They're all hit and miss but the more they upset potential customers the more likely they are not to produce a living.

'Lenny & Pete', shame they haven't a business name.

They did - but I cannot remember it - I put the number in my phone as Lenny the plasterer lol

I understand Mr. Roberts is very expensive x good luck, hope whoever you go with does a good job :)

Well Tinker, it happened, the guy (through gritted teeth, i can just about say his name) Jason Roberts never turned up, no knock on the door, no phone call, nothing.

The guy is going on my (ever growing) never-to-call-again list!

Carl (Tonkinsons) did come round at the agreed time and has promised a quote in the post, so we'll see.

It always amazes me how many self employed people dont bother to turn up to quote. I recently used a builder that lives very near me (ie I see him several times a week) and he never finished the job. Up until that point it was all OK, but I knew as soon as he requested part payment it probably wasn't going to get completed. However as he had done enough for what I needed and I could DIY the rest I thought sod him I wont chase him I'll save myself a few quid.
I've also had a carpenter that did half the job and never came back to complete it (or get paid) and an aerial installed and the guy never came back the next day to get the booster box working or get paid - mind you the aerial works fine so I dont know why it needed a booster and one of my expensive watches hasn't been seen since....
Dont get me wrong there are plenty of decent tradesmen out there, but the amount of them that do half a job or just cant be arsed is surprising.

...and
…there was a knock on the door last night and both Lenny & Pete (recommended via Tinker) were at the door, not pre scheduled, all Lenny had from me was a phone call saying yes, can you come round on a work day after 6, he took my address and phone number and said he'd call next week to check etc, i was expecting a phone call to organise him coming round, but none of that, 'they' both just turned up, it threw me (aswell as my partner) a little, 5 minutes later i'd have been out the house and they'd have been left with a confused partner who knew i'd called them but didn't know anymore than that, which would have been totally unfair on her, i seriously think these people are from a different planet.

Ooops - I have to say that they are real grafters - and probably were in the area - they turn up, do whats expected - job done and no messing.

Good luck, I have to say I am not suprised by Jason Roberts - he obviously filters out the work he wants and ignores the rest.

Lenny and Pete have been, done the job and paid.

They turned up on time and did a great job!

I have another room that needs skimming (which they have quoted for previously) and i will have them back to do that job soon.

Looks like i've reliable plasterers for my plastering needs.

Little update, Lenny & Pete, have been and done a 2nd (great!) job.
They skimmed the ceiling and walls in my living room, which included a chimney breast (with opening to fire) and a bay (rounded) window, i can't fault them at all, my plasterers of choice.

I almost thought i had them; then not.
Pete had to have an operation on his hand, selfish me was thinking i hope he gets back in the game, my living room needs doing!

Further update.

Pete has been round (with son) to plaster my kitchen, another (the 3rd) great job.

A few weeks after doing my living room (see above), had Pete round to look at my kitchen and quote me for the work to skim, box-in, and generally make the room look lovely and flat, he was scheduled to come see me at 6 (one week day) but rang at 5.50 to say he'd be late, i like the professionalism of this small matter, it makes a huge difference in my eyes.

He let me know how Lenny was doing and that is, not so good, needs an operation for something or other and i wish him a speedy recovery etc etc.

He did me a fairly good quote for the work that need doing, very fiddly, round wall cupboards and dodgy ceiling boards that needed replacing etc etc, so booked him in.

Pete (with son) came round on Monday (24.09.12) bang on time, and started the work, took them two days and yet again, he's done a brilliant job.

LPH Plastering are my plasterers of choice!

Excellent !
Re Jason Roberts my friend contacted him for a quote and he didnt bother turning up at agreed time - the bloke is a complete idiot. I sent her the link to this SF page lol

I need another room skimming so I will just ring Lenny and Pete - I note that Lenny might not be well - hope he gets better soon.

I had LPH (Lenny & Pete Plasterers) around on Thursday to give me a quote - they came round on Monday and did the job.

Totally reliable, honest, tidy job and the cheapest around. A very large bedroom which needed reskimmed and corners etc. £180 bargain -

My friend had another plasterer round to give her a quote for reskimming a small bathroom and they were told just under £500 - flipping eck ! thank god she didnt go with thim

Let me know if Lenny is back in the game, i know he's been off his feet and hope he's back doing what he does best, and that's giving a wall a good skimming, haa!

Well a day and a half to do my hall/stairs/landing and I'm really pleased with it. They're a hard working pair and I can't fault the job. Definitely be using them again!

His name is Jakub. He did such a lovely job on our office, I would throughly recommend him.

Yes he was very reasonable.

But each job is different so I can only go by what I thought was fair.

Give him a ring and he will give you a quote.
