Went to TPH last night for their Mexican night and boy was it good. We had the nachos to share starter which was great, good portion between two and loads of cheese, sour cream, guacamole and salsa. Our mains were quite boring with us both having Fajitas, a vege and a chicken - didn't look a huge portion when it came (two wraps and a tea cups worth of filling) but considering the price of the menu it was fair enough and actually did fill me up. The filling up was also helped by the fact that we had some "chilli poppers" which are essentially mozzarella sticks in batter which were yummy but despite the name not spicy at all. Also we had some chips and they were delicious - must have been twice or thrice cooked or something-or-other as they were some of the best chips we've ever had.

Special mention to Matt from TPH as he was a really nice guy and looked after us really well. TPH if you are reading this the please pass on our thanks. Also I was unsure about taking out one and a half year old to TPH in the evening but checked when I booked and they said it was fine and it was.

Constructive feedback - a small pot of grated cheese might have been a nice option with the fajitas and also mine weren't very spicy and lacked a little chilli - I should have asked but wasn't sure how they would be so maybe you could offer them. Also for what I consider the poshest restaurant in Stafford, having your menus printed on such floppy paper seems a bit cheap - perhaps you could invest in some thicker paper?

Will definitely be back as there are at least two other dishes I want to try on the Mexican menu. My next outing will be The Swan though, probably to try the vegetarian and vegan night.

All in all the night cost £45 - £25 for the two Mexican menus, then the remaining £20 for the 2 sides, bottle of water, a medium glass of wine (£5) and two coffees afterwards.

don't mention the blinds
Meant to update a couple of weeks back but things just slip my mind lately. Anyway went to the steak night and all in all pretty faultless. The steaks were quality and the head girl was friendly enough, however none of the staff offered to take our coats or at least direct us to some coat pegs so they were left draped over the backs of our dining chairs. Another point is that one of the toilet cubicles was missing toilet paper.........
.........I must point out that I was not in need of a number2 and I was most certainly not in the ladies lavatory.......

single in the mingle
The Post House used to run a Single's Night that involved speed dating.
Any short term plans to reintroduce single's night on a regular basis?
May be there is no demand for such a thing in stafford?

thanks for your comments.

Needed to eat at 3.30 this afternoon, decided on the TPH despite having 2 previous negative experiences as not many other options at that time on a Sunday. All in all it was exactly the same experience as before, really decent food, but why does everythiing take so long to arrive? 45 mins from ordering for the starters to arrive, at least 30 mins from finishing starters to the mains arriving and no-one came to check if we even wanted dessert. Decided to leave feedback on the feedback form as we've now had 3 good meals blighted by the terrible slow service. Sort it out TPH as I doubt we'll be back and many others may well feel the same.

I suspect so, the look they gave us when we dared to ask for the chutney that was meant to come with our starter (and they'd run out of but couldn't be arsed to tell us) means we've never been back. Plus the steaks had a burnt taste on the outside proving the grill was dirty, had better meals at the hungry horse and I'm fussy!

There have been rumours about....

As of Tuesday I believe

Although my understanding is that the business was split into different limited companies last time it went bust. And one of these companies folded on Tuesday.
I expect suppliers maybe out of pocket again but will happily be corrected should anyone from the post house care to update us

Although we had a very nice meal from Groupon a few years ago, we have not eaten at The Post House since.

Once we knew how they conducted their business, how they treated their staff, ( unpaid for weeks allegedly) how they went bankrupt leaving many small suppliers unpaid.......

Then just started up again with the children as the new owners so that they didnt have to pay their debts. Allegedly.

Oh and rumour has it, they didnt want Stafford peope in anyway. They wanted to attract people from Birmingham and surrounding areas.

Or so I heard.

Well they're definitely still open (and taking Christmas bookings). Is it the kind of 'bust' where they stay open and change owners again then?

My Brother and I wanted to drop in one Friday night for a few beverages and get the night going a little bit...Bearing in mind my brother had come up from Bristol for a night out....the knuckle head bouncer's on the door flat our refused not just us, but several other patrons from entering what looked like a fairly empty venue.

I'm not surprised they're going bust if they have a policy of stopping people from spending their cash in there. Their loss and another pubs gain.

Then again, I doubt I'd ever want to go in their anyway...every time I've been in there I've always felt uncomfortable and my money isn't good enough for them.

Takes the piss really, the surname Foster pops up in all 3 instances. Will it pop up again with another relative fronting it.
