Is there anywhere/anyone that teaches playing the electric guitar in Stafford and can be recommended ? Also places to buy a decent starter one (not for me of course .....I had lessons in Spanish Guitar many moons ago and was a total waste of money as I never played it again ! )

There is also the Stafford Music School on Mill Street - not really able to give any personal recommendation but have met the chap from the Music School and he was rather lovely.

It also has probably the loudest banging door in Stafford, if that is a consideration...

Phoenix Music 40-42 Gaol Road the guy gives lessons and you'll get a Marshall starter kit for not a lot of dosh.
He'll get you playing a tune in about 3 or 4 lessons if your up to it.
Ask for Ed tell him Brian from BPElectric sent you he'll do a deal.
I buy all my sticks and heads from him
Hes also a Pro played with Aretha Franklin back in the day

How do I edit this?
I'd recommend Alex Williams very highly - he used to be resident teacher at Guitar & son, and now teaches at Mews Music as well as doing private tuition: 07599860271. He's also a thoroughly decent bloke and far and away the most versatile guitarist in my acquaintance.

Not sure who does the guitar lessons at Staffordshire Music Centre, but I've had good dealings with them on other things.

I've had good dealings with Kays Music in Stoke, if you don't go the phoenix music route. Personally, if I was looking for an electric for a beginner, I'd probably spend £30 second hand in Cash Converters, or on Gumtree or Ebay and then pay Kays £20 to set it up for me.

Is it for a child or teenager? My children used to go to Guitar Club on Saturday mornings at Stafford College. It was good, but aimed at children and teenagers. They have different classes for different age groups. I used to sit in on the lessons because of the young age of one of my children. The lessons were well taught though the lecturer did keep showing the children film clips of Kiss which may have been scary for any child with a clown phobia. I was happy because I like Kiss.

One of my children decided she didn't want to go anymore (not because of Kiss, because she just lost interest in guitar) and kept crying through the lessons, so I decided not to torture her or the lecturer any more. But that was a few years ago and she wants to go back now, so we may end up giving it another go.

Thanks Apricot. It's for a 19 yr old who just wants a few lessons to get him started whilst he's home from uni for the summer , so the Stafford College sort of set up probably wouldn't suit him.

Rang Ed at Phoenix and we are on our way down there this afternoon to see what he has to offer.

Also rang Alex Williams , who gave us prices for private tuition and going to ring us back later today.

I have linked a friend of mine to this thread. He used to post on here, don't think he does any more, however, he's an excellent guitarist, plays in a band and is local to stafford. I'm sure he'll be along soon :)

Hat-tip to shoes for linking me (I used to teach in a small way a few years ago, and play for Pale these days (somebody round here's bound to have heard of us...). Drop me a PM if you want to discuss it.
(That's if the Forum still does PMs, of course. Can't see a link on the smartphone here...)
