I am so there! Make it fried bread and you've got a winner, and mops up the frying pan, although just that line up is good to me. How rare is it nowadays to get all the trimmings, its usually beans OR toms, rarely mushies and never hash browns. Get your westons on and I'll be down!
Oh! Fried bread.

I am living in Stafford solely because I had fried bread for my breakfast once. Fact!

It was the day of my French O-level oral exam and the first question - en Français - was, 'What did you have for your breakfast?' I had a very poor grasp of French, but even I could answer that - 'Pain frite', I said. He put his clipboard down and said 'You've just said 'fried bread'! 'Yes', I said,, proud of my achievement. 'What? Bread that has been fried?' he said, having no concept that such a thing was possible. We spent the fifteen minutes allowed to uncover my (in)competence in the French language discussing, in English, the finer points of fried bread. At the end he must has given me a pass mark and that got me a bare scrape in French which gave me enough O-levels to do A-levels and thus end up at the Poly. Any other questions, or any other breakfast, and I would have been rumbled. Without that piece of fried bread Stafford would be a poorer place - I like to think.

Indeed. I thought it was weird too, but he genuinely had no idea and thought that I had said something irrational by mistake.

Saved my bacon, though.

We didn't get as far as talking about bacon - what's French for bacon? Is it jambon, or is that just ham? Lucky I hit him with the bread first, eh?

Ooh, now that gets my vote! It got black pudding?
You betcha! It's gonna be pretty much this:

2x locally sourced smoked back bacon rashers
2x locally sourced pork sausages
1x locally sourced free range egg
Black pudding
Fried mushrooms
Hash browns
Baked beans
Grilled tomatoes
Toast

Any good? ;)

:pig:
how about an extra egg for Forum members? I dont ask much but for me a fry up needs 2 eggs...can even sack the Hash browns for me

i thought the french for "bacon" was just to say "bacon" really loud & slowly, and make a bacon shaped motion with your hands.. that's how you speak all foreign languages, innit?

i assume there's some degree of flexibility.. i don't like egg, mushrooms, or tomato for instance, so i sure as hell better be getting some extra hash browns!!

mmmmmmm hash browns

you see, the idea of Potato with breakfast is just wrong to me yet I could never eat a fried breakfast without an egg and still call it a fry up. I would just list the components rather than give it a name

actually...another important question....whats the Black Pudding like? I sincerely hope its thick slices cause thin just dont work for me

i'm the exact opposite.. a fry-up just isn't the same without potato bread and/or hash browns, imo!

i've never eaten an egg in my life.. i've tried, honestly.. i think they look lovely, and i've had a go at dipping a soldier in one once, but i just couldn't bring myself to eat it.. i can only assume that i have some hideous allergy and eating an egg would send me into debilatating anaphylaxis, and my innate fear of them is some kind of defense mechanism lol..

Does "locally sourced" mean "purchased from Tesco"? :D

Seriously though, sounds great I will have to get down there some time.

Morning all,

In answer to your questions relating to the All Day Breakfast:

Yes, you are more than welcome to swap any non-meat item for another.

No, locally sourced certainly doesn't mean Sainsbury's/Tesco/any other supermarket! I use a variety of high quality butchers throughout Staffordshire, so whilst I can't put 'Sausages from Wm. Perry, Eccleshall' like The Hollybush do (as i'd have to reprint my menus so frequently), you can rest assured that all meat is from extremely reputable butchers whose stock is sourced within the region.

Oh, and the Black Pudding isn't thin slivers...it's decent slices, and again is sourced from local butchers. We do a Black Pudding, Poached Egg and Au Poivre Sauce starter on the main menu, and it's a strong favourite.

Cool, sounds good to me! It has been known before for places to say locally sourced because they buy it locally. Doesn't have an impact on where the animal was raised. Maybe put locally reared instead? Sounds better TBH, and can't be misconstrued.

Now, what about haggis? :D

Locally sourced vs. Locally reared: agreed and will be changed.

Unfortunately I won't be starting the bar menu until this Friday 6th March. I won't go into too many details, but we have to set all the meals up on our electronic till system which feeds the orders through to the kitchen, plus I won't have all the required stock until Friday.

Sorry if this causes any disappointment, however I only decided to revive the bar menu a couple of days ago, so Wednesday was probably a little ambitious!

Haggis eh?! Well we still offer the Castle Tavern Chicken Supreme which is stuffed with haggis...were you hoping for a proper haggis main?

In line with turning the main section of the Castle Tavern back into a pub, we are relaunching the great value bar menu. All ingredients are locally sourced where possible. This menu is available as of Wednesday 4th March 2009.
well, i've just found that this isn't available today, as previously advertised.. there goes my dinner plans :(

edit: looks like the official announcement beat me to it by 30 seconds..
