Part Worn Tyres

You will never know the history of a part worn tyre so can never be certain that it's 100% sound. Tyres, like brakes are things you don't gamble with.

Get yourself down to County Tyres and see what deals they have on at the moment on new budget tyres that meet all the legal standards.

I found that the tyre place near AA silencers called ACE tyres on Browning st, is ok for used tyres, and he can get some cheap new tyres too.
But I have a large van that takes big tyres, I would buy new if I could afford it

Tyres are the only bit of your car in contact with the road. Spend your money wisely and buy new tyres and keep yourself as safe as possible.

County Tyres is the place to go.

Part worn tyres can be a minefield, e.g. Part Worn Tyres: 98% Are Sold Illegally

Well, if you want to pay £5 for a tyre, what do you expect. If the tyres have been tested, then there is nothing wrong with them.

So if you brought a used car, would you put new tyres and brakes on it straight away, because you don't know the history of them.

You gamble with your life as much as you like @airbusA346. As long as any accident you have doesn't involve me or mine then I'm not bothered

I use the guy at the back of the car wash (old petrol station) on the Stone Road.

Whilst there are a lot of people saying that tyres are something you shouldn't gamble on, part worn one's aren't always a bad deal. Use a reputable seller that only sells named brands that have come off business vehicles that change them routinely often. I usually spend about £30 a tyre and they still look new! Been doing so all my life and never had an issue.
For what it's worth I once had a friend who paid top prices for the best tyres going... he had a blowout with a brand new tyre on the motorway the same day as it was fitted! Rare, but still happens.

I'd rather spend my money on a quality part worn than a brand new budget tyre. I'd also love to put £80 tyres on my car... but I'm a realist and know that a lot of us simply can't afford to do so. :)

LOL...

WTF!

So as I mentioned in my previous post, you would put new tyres and brakes on a used car, because you don't know the history. Would you demand the dealership/garage do that before you brought the car. If you did, I can imagine they would tell you to do one.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to buy new tyres, myself & husband have used Premier tyres on Greyfriars for our replacement part worn tyres, & never had a problem....

Yeah, I use them too, as recommended to me by AASilencers. Pretty happy with them the last couple of year, an I tend to trust Silencers on most automotive matters.

Just changed the 6 tyres on our motor home that has only done 27,000 miles, the tyre tread was still very good but as the tyres could be 10/11 years old don't want to risk having a blow out due to any sun damage to the tyre wall.

Yes.

Partly because people will put any old shit on and £13 Pagid pads just don't cut it for me and people rarely put premium tyres on old cars.... and I won't drive on shit.

Not to mention, I'm yet to change out brake fluid that isn't so far past it's best that's dangerous, so I change that, too.

These guys are really good in fairness, part worns aren't for me, but my other half has had plenty of tyres from them, only one had a defect (slowly went down) and they replaced it no questions - even put a new valve in at no extra cost in case it was that, but changed the tyre anyway. From a customer service point of view it doesn't get better than that. Also she's never had anything other than a michelin/dunlop/goodyear/bridgestone/conti from them, as far as I can tell they don't deal in rubbish.

Seems an odd thing to do but to be honest I've never done it...

Has anyone got any examples of the cost (for the tyre then the fitting) and the appropriate tyre size?

On her fiesta she had small tyres, i think they were something like 165/70/13 and they were £22 fitted and balanced for a good brand with circa 5mm left

The focus had a 195/50/15 and I think they were £25 fitted and balanced with similar tread depth remaining.

Never tried them for larger tyres.
