Forum O. G.
The xenforo platform that this forum is built on is significantly better than others I have seen. At least this one gives you nice and clear notifications on the site. The best thing is that it takes you right to the first new post in any given thread. Other forums you have to read through the whole lot again!
I quite like the way this forum is laid out :)
The only other forum that I use takes you to the last new post, which seems daft and you have to read back until you see one that you remember.

Recent Activity under the Members tag, top-left, can be handy, too. It shows things other than just the latest thread posts - who has liked what, new avatars, profile posts, etc.

An issue that can occur here is that, if new posts run onto another page, you can miss the newer ones, but clicking New Posts again when you're finished, or think you are, will bring up any new posts on pages that you haven't read.

proactive

Enjoying a drop of red.
I think the forum as it is, is fine. It looks good, it's fast and it's easy to find what you want and keep abreast of what you want through notifications. Even more importantly, it works well across multiple platforms, something that constantly annoys me on my other forum.

So if admin did change something, there would be uproar, in accordance with your passionate views!
You'd of thought i suggested a complete dismantle and rebuild!!!
What i find most annoying is that it does not send notifications if your name or post is mentioned. I wouldn't know what was mentioned if i didn't periodically check.

That's pretty much what you suggested lol.

Had a thought. Stafford Forum and its technical makeup.
For a a site with a fair few members, the layout and useability of the site is very basic, which ironically makes it complicated and slow..pacman type format.
Any plans to improve? I enjoy the quantity but not the quality of the site. I understand it may be a voluntary administration but surely time has to now be given to making the site faster and easier and more fluid to use. In an age of fast apps and websites, a good overhaul is surely needed. Feels clumbersome and old. A lot of other forums i visit are much more intuitive and easier to use, navigate and write within.
Just saying

Yup we are pretty passionate about how the sites looks and works lol stock-photo-angry-villagers-on-the-march-182141570.jpg

It does not notify you externally from the site

Do not change the site, it's perfectly fine as it is.

If I don't like something I don't use it, choice is King!

where?

the forum is a great setup and works well. but, the 1 thing I've never seen here is 'notification to email'

@number9 and @Cedar Forestry & Logging Ltd

go to the top right hand corner and click on your avatar.

Then click on "Alert preferences"

Then on the left hand side click on "preferences"

Then under "options" click on "recieve e mail notification"

Its there but you need to know where to look!

Hope this helps.:)

Cedar must know this already, he says A lot of other forums i visit are much more intuitive and easier to use, navigate and write within, so is a visitor of a few forums and he manages to negotiate those (by the sounds of it), so doubt he needs help.

I gather it's the overall look he's not too happy about, not sure what could change to work better.

The only gripe I have (and it's not that much of a gripe) is some of the forumites, but heck what can @Admin do about that?!

@number9

You are on Alert Prefences.

Look on the left hand side there is a dark blue line that says SETTINGS then under there " is "Preferences". **NOT ALERT PREFERENCES**

Click on preferences and then you will see options. click on that.
I attached wrong pic first carole, since replaced, apologized, and letting it be known I don't get any email notifications
and I'm very used to forums - this setup is one of the better ones to use.

Yes, I normally get an email when someone has a conversation with me, happy for someone to test though...

I believe that the Forum has some problems with Hotmail addresses.

well that would explain things.
on other forums I use, its usually turned off anyway to stop so many mails, I 'subscribe to a thread and select email notifications' when I need to watch that thread.
