Enjoying a drop of red.
(I remember the little DIY shop years ago on Bodmin Avenue came in very handy when I knocked my dads car numberplate off driving over the garage's jack as I drove in to get the tyres replaced. The bloke sold me a few screws and came out and fixed them on for me...my dad was never any the wiser ;) )
Harvey's it was called. Great place with very helpful staff. Saved my DIY bacon many a time.

Bricknell's is like that. The Sidney Ave one, not really.

I forgot about the chemist's. I'm talking 60's early 70's. There was also the row of shops on Rickerscote Road where Bricknell's was ... Binns's sweet shop and Patricia Hairdresser's.
Binns sweet shop yer remember it well the hair dresser's belong to Norman Crocket in my day had my first proper hair cut there lol
They all seemed to move up to Burton Manor at about the same time

Sidney Avenue shop reminds me of a smaller version of Handyman House that used to be next to Kwik Save.

I remember the name Norman Crockett now but not at that hairdresser's ... It was Pat Oldacre's place and I always thought she looked like Peculiar Clarke of Downtown fame. Wasn't Norman Crockett a Councillor?

Thinking about it, I think I remember Crockett's barbers was at Burton Manor in my day.

There was also Kinsons' shop at Rising brook which is April Flowers now, or was. I think Mr. Kinson was a councillor as well. I can see him and his wife now ... miserable buggers they were.

There was also Celecta. So long ago!

Oh yes I remember the chip van in Perrin Close. God it was such a treat in those innocent days. We really had nothing particularly in a material sense but didn't care in those days because it did not matter because we were all the same

I think I just saw a sign suggesting there is a DIY shop in Sidney Avenue.

Is this new? Is it any good? Is it on the lines of the one that used to be in First Avenue?

Hi there, We are a family run business and opened in November 2015. Still building our stock profile and finding our feet. I hope you will visit us soon. All feed back welcome.

We had a leaflet through our door advertising that DIY shop in Sidney Avenue a few months ago. Made a metal note of it for if I ever need any bits & bobs as I'm driving past but not been in yet.
