Wasps - feel my wrath!
I have been a huge fan for years still gutted I can't find my Astoria 93/4 Vid when they were INMHO stormingly good ( pablo honey) however thats my problem and I will weep forever because of it !

( Now before we go anywhere this isn't a "I think Radiohead are Ace! discuss type of post ..so no sayin' "am not bothered they are <insert suitable whatever "diss" type phrase or typing rudeness . We all have our own ways of being creative so play nicely !! > )

I'm more interested in the concept and the effect is is likely to have on how we have bought and enjoyed music over the years ranging from the "Can you put this on Mister "and listen to it in the booth type of music enlightenment after whichj you take the shiny black heavy round piece of vinyl joy back to the man and pay for it ( after which of course to let all your mates record it !) to our now more modern downloading" I'll email/ bluetooth it to you " and p2p methods and the like

What do you think about Radiohead's move to release the new album not only without a record label, but you can actually select the price you want to pay for it (even 0 pounds is an option!)

Sure they're loaded already from previous album sales concerts etc. but still it is an interesting social experiment as they made 'illegal' downloading 'legal' just with one move and now everyone who said music is overpriced or anything else to justify using p2p websites etc can basically pay what they like, legally, completely bypassing the whole record industry at the same time.

Fans can also order a discbox full with goodies (double vinyl, double cd, extra songs, hard back artwork book and lyrics sheets) for 40 quid including shipping. This I reckon will cater for the die hard fans ,purists and collectors . Even if it is a bit pricey !

Not a move that small bands could make easily feel , but it kind of shows how you can 'share' your music with the world and still offer your artistic version of it for those who want it. (Unlike some bands like Metallica who'd probably slit your throat for a fiver)

I am getting a copy no matter what the reason ,already pre-ordered

Anyway what do we think is going to happen after all this ?

My thoughts/rambles

I guess it's fairly obvious that it will score fairly high in the download charts . However once it is released tomorrow it will probs flood the Usenet sites etc and there would be no point downloading it for any price really . Could this mark the end of the p2p game? Doubtful i think it may make a bit of a dent .
What about oyalties and the like if you bought something for "0 pence" then giving it to someone for the sake of it wouldn't then be a crime would it? They could also get it for "0 pence" .Mind you I hope people actually do stump up some cash or it would be a silly experiment .. Hang on .. maybe that's the whole idea?

It may encourage people to have a listen for the sake of it ( much like the social networking, face, my space, look at my book beebobob, whatever they are called sites but with better quality I should think .

there's no tour planned so nothing to promote? ( this is typical of Yorke when he gets into misery mode tho')

I wonder how it will affect up and coming bands and beat combos will they have to now give away their music ?( know its been done before) but with much better quality . If they do give away their music then how will they make any money ( not that this should be the main reason for making music) most real musos or industry people I have met over the years IMHO appear to have ethics that are about"artistic creativity" type stuff not brass , money whatever

So does this mean the arse is now going to fall out of that "lets make a record and do a thousand shows, make a million dollars" type of idea ? Does anyone care? (will see the responses if any)

Or better still does it mean artists will now only get paid for their live shows and Ts, bum bags, hats , pictures, posters rather than the music ? .

Will it mark the end of synthetic manufactured boy/girl bands who can't play live or put on a decent show? That would be good !

anyway rambling now APU so just wondered if there were any thoughts .. ?

No worries

If this link works it should take you onto the page for the download not the box set thing

http://www.inrainbows.com/Store/Quickindex.html

If it doesn't then follow the link for "in rainbows" or something to do with Rainbows and it will take you there
