Storm Katie: Flooding closes M6
Severe flooding has closed the M6.

Heavy rain has caused the closure of the M6 northbound between Junction 13 and Junction 14 for Stafford due to flooding.

There is also flooding on the southbound carriageway, but this remain open with speed restrictions in place.

Storm Katie has brought the high winds and rain today.

Heavy rain moving north-eastwards across England and Wales presents a risk of localised flooding, while motorists are warned to be wary of branches falling from trees in the high winds.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: "There is likely to be a lot of surface spray on the roads, there could be localised flooding, and the winds could cause branches to come off the trees, and one or two tiles off the roof.

"Allow extra time for your journey and if possible try and delay your journey as winds will tend to ease off throughout the day."

Winds of up to 60mph are forecast inland, with speeds of 70mph expected along the south coast, especially towards exposed areas across the south and south-east.

The Met Office tweeted that gusts of 77mph had been recorded at Berry Head, Devon and The Needles, Isle of Wight, saw winds of 87mph.

Those travelling back from breaks across the country are advised to be careful on the roads, and if possible delay their journeys until later this afternoon.

I have not ventured out the house yet but big pools have appeared in local fields. My weather station recorded 23.4 mm of rain over night.

I have not been down to look but Long Lane seems to be flooded at Dale Lane, cars are turning around and heading back towards Haughton.

The Sandon Road was no better by 14:15, some gormless buggers
had gone as far as to move the traffic cones, the better to flood
their engines I presume. There was a lot of oil or petrol gushing
down Sandyford Brook earlier too.

It does amaze when this kind of flooding happens that the councils want to build on flood plain. Can't understand the logic,

Especially Stone_Bloke in an area called: The Meadows...defies all understanding.

And even more especially in a place; the name of which ends in: Ford
