Immigration vs Unemployment

I don't have a problem with anyone from another country coming here and sharing their skills and culture but I do think that they should only be allowed entry if there is a shortage for that skill.

As far as those lazy arses on the dole, they should have to justify why they want the money and how they are going to pay it back. Our DSS system is too soft on dolites and it is easy to see why many people take advantage of it, but they ruin it for those who really do need it.

If someone is on invalidity or incapacity, I'm sure most of them could spend at least an hour on a PC posting items for sale on ebay for charities. They should have to do some work to justify some of their dole.

There is a family that live in my street and they have 14 kids, neither of the parents work, the chap is on incapacity benefit and they drive a 7 seater waggon, he is first in the street to get up the ladder and string up his tacky Christmas decorations. Fags are over a fiver now, he has one in his face every time i see him.

Surely he could clean our streets windows for free every week. That 7 seater could carry a load of recycling to the tip and if he gave up his fags, he would save us expensive heart & lung disease treatment when the fags finally do him in.

The justice system is too soft on criminals - that's life.

It's the benefits system that is at fault not the claimants.

There is a large number of both the British and immigrant population that are claiming benefits and will continue to do so until the system changes.

There is also the question of enough jobs to go round but the current system does not give people any incentive to find a job which has given rise to the fallacy that there are certain jobs that British workers won't do, this argument is usually used by people trying to justify allowing more people to come to this country to work.

This is a "delicate" issue and I think should be treated as such otherwise it will most likely get closed which would be a bit of a bugger as it's good to hear other peoples opinions on things .
Don't worry about me closing the thread. That will only ever happen if I feel the thread has gone so wildly off-topic that there is no hope for redemption. Even if someone were immature enough to resort to personal insults, I would simply remove the individual posts and keep the thread open.

I will also not censor people's opinions. If you come on here and profess your love for extreme right/left policies, then so be it. As long as I feel you are not deliberately trolling and you just want to express and explain your beliefs, then that's fine by me, no matter how controversial your thoughts may be.

It's not often I close threads, and I would hate to think that there are people out there who are put off expressing their true feelings as they think I am some kind of "do-gooding" ogre who is trying to sanitise The Forum!
What has happened to that thread, I contributed in the early stages and would like to read the replies.

Page two of this thread appears to be from the old thraed.

I'm an immigrant and tek-monkey's comment is a load of b0ll0cks.

Most immigrants in this country do jobs locals dont want to do. Take the shell petrol station in Stone for example. The shell garage was always struggling to get staff. I forever saw job advertisements in the petrol station.

Now they employ immigrants and very rarely see a job vacancy.

Another fact to point out is that unemployment is actually very low. Even when you take into account all the lazy asses out there. Therefore, immigrants cant be taking up valuable British jobs.

On a side note, I employ Tech-Monkey, and we shall be having words in about 5 minutes.
In this country we have freedom of speech and you can't threaten them with disiplinary action at work (which you are hinting at) because of the views.

Aye, afraid the whole 'blame the system' doesn't wash with me, just because it's there and it allows it doesn't mean it's to be abused.

Im glad that a benefits system exists, I had to claim dole myself once, for 2 weeks. It was embarrasing & I hope never to have to claim it again. But its good to know its there if I needed it, if I was made redundant & struggled to find another job for example.

Im also all in favour of supporting people who cant work because they are disabled. I think as a society we are responsible for looking after those who are less fortunate than ourselves & who need help. That I am wholly in favour of.

However it makes me sick to the stomach when I see people who just cant be bothered to work, who can go for years, decades not working. They see benefits as a basic entitlement so if they dont want to work why should they. They dont think that if everyone in the country took that attitude then society would collapse- their "entitlement" has to come from somewhere! For every person not working someone else needs to be working hard to support them. So people with that attitude are spongers, leeches on society, & we need to do something about it.

I am strongly in favour of forcing long term "jobseekers" to work 9-5 doing community service, litterpicking, anything. If they have to pick litter from 9-5 every day maybe it might make them think "hmm, doing a job would be better than this". Thats the only approach that will work with these sorts of people. Otherwise they will continue to spend my tax money in wetherspoons all day every day laughing at us mugs that are working our asses off paying for it all.

Just my opinion. There are many genuine people out there on benefits but there are also so many people sponging off society because they can, & it really annoys me.

I totally agree with you shoes! You can't avoid smart people using system their own way!

You could to a degree but it would probably contravene human rights etc.
