Three things you would miss about Stafford.

I've lived in a lot of places and they all have individual specialities.

What three local features would you find it hard to replicate, if you moved away?

For me, the list is easy.

1, The Greyhound at Burston. http://www.staffordforum.com/xf/index.php?threads/the-greyhound-inn-at-burston-sandon.3944/

2, @wmrcomputers

3, Stafford Balti. http://www.staffordforum.com/xf/index.php?threads/stafford-balti.13461/

1, Good, reliable food in a nice environment - with no telly, intrusive music or loudmouths.

2, Wayne will always get you out of whatever you've done, virtually instantly and pleasantly cheaply.

3, A special place - the most 'personal' business in Stafford.

After last night's calamitous news, I hope that Stafford Balti will continue much as before, though I foresee an intense training regime for the new chap after Christmas.

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
1 the railway connection to London

2 Junction 13 of the M6

3 Junction 14 of the M6

( the above wouldn't work of course without low burglary rates in the borough)

1. Isabel Trail. I have ran it, walked my dogs up it, wandered along it with my wife, it changes completely depending on the month. I love that stretch.
2. Castle Town, I have mentioned before that I love that small group of streets, there is something quiet and special for me at least about Russel St, Peel St, etc.
3. The town centre, ex of Telford its lovely to have a town centre I can walk into for a pint.

What was last night's calamitous news?

I'd miss having the Marshes on my doorstep, but given the bit I use will soon be gone, I don't think there is much I'd miss. Car boot on the Common maybe? I've become very disillusioned with life in Stafford recently. Hate the new soulless shopping centre, hate that it drives people out of the old town centre, drive being the only transport available in Stafford which also depresses me.

Other towns manage to develop their existing town centres, maintain buildings of architectural and historical significance, encourage green space and trees, and provdie segregated space for cyclists in a thought out and joined up way. Stafford planners manage none of that. They allow old building to be demolished, housing estates to be built on all the green space and provide no sustainable form of transport infrastructure to help people navigate the town in any way but the car.

Bah humbug to Staffords good points!

Discounting houses & people I suppose

1) The park - it's a gem of a place that offers so much

2) bumping into people I know, all of the time - without feeling it's claustraphobic

3) the train station - and the avilability to get anywhere, easily. (I Write this from Manchester Airport which took us less then 2hrs to get to - from train leaving the house to the bar the other side of security)

1) the soup kitchen, I take everybody who visits and is a real talking point.

2) the flowers, I don't come from anywhere as pretty as Stafford, I remember my first walk through the town and thinking how pretty it is, especially in the summer.

3) the park, there is something for everyone. I'm looking forward to a new cafe there to be honest, I think it will really boost the amount that use that area of the park.

When I lived in Stafford I used to have a take away from here at least two or three times a month.
But never found out how Abdul got my home address to send a Christmas card.
He probably knows where you are now.....

A friend of mine ordered a delivery recently, for the first time in nearly a year, as hubby has been having health issues. Five minutes later, they got a call back "Is this order right? It's not what you normally have.." Hubby's medication had led them to order a milder dish....

1) The Market Vaults......Not just for the ale, but the food and the people there. Many an evening spent in there, and some of the best nights in recent memory too.

2) Central location......can pretty much make it to anywhere with relative ease.

3) Surrounding villages and areas....each with their quirks

1. Knowing my way around.
2. Having several places of historical and cultural importance on the high street.
3. How much green space there is in and around the town.

However, knowing the town so well means I'm less likely to explore so it's a double-edged sword.

We are seriously lucky compared to a lot of other places, getting rid of Shire Hall Art Gallery is a farking terrible idea! I am almost looking forward to the county council elections in May, it would be a good opportunity to raise the issue of Stafford's culture and heritage being decimated.

Enjoying a drop of red.
There are actually many more than three but as it's three only then:

The Swan

Cannock Chase

The good transport links.
